Unlike Weiss, Partridge is a freaking STUD of a recruiter. Jacked to have him back.
February 6th, 2023 at 9:58 PM ^
Josh Gattis was a stud of a recruiter too.
February 6th, 2023 at 12:10 PM ^
Welcome back to AA, CP!
February 6th, 2023 at 12:24 PM ^
Isn't CP what got Weiss fired?
/s
February 6th, 2023 at 1:41 PM ^
No, that was CPU's. Common misunderstanding.
February 6th, 2023 at 3:43 PM ^
Why the down votes? It's funny, and even if it's not, the avatar and handle make up for any shortcomings...
+1 my friend!
February 6th, 2023 at 4:42 PM ^
I guess some people don't get it? /shrug
February 6th, 2023 at 5:42 PM ^
I didn’t down vote, but perhaps those that did prefer 45-23?
February 6th, 2023 at 12:52 PM ^
What is this gibberish? I need a legend!

Means one of the current coaches is out right? I know Helow has been talked about, but haven't seen anything official yet

That's CP to us plebs.

You may not be first, but I compliment you for using actual names rather than initials and a decoder ring.
February 6th, 2023 at 12:17 PM ^
You won't be able to resist us now, recruits!
February 6th, 2023 at 12:21 PM ^
Did Partridge's recruiting reputation hold up at Ole Miss? I was just looking through his list of top all-time recruits and there's basically nothing of note at Ole Miss, it's all from his UM tenure.
Or is it just that as Co-DC and a position coach, he wasn't really tasked with recruiting responsibilities (which would seem like a huge failure on Ole Miss' part)?
February 6th, 2023 at 12:43 PM ^
I'm wondering this as well because it is a common thing that a guy goes from HS to college and does a great job recruiting in the area he coached HS only for it to slowly fade with time. The reason I'd have to assume is kids from the area slowly not knowing who you are either naturally or due to other guys you connected with moving on as well. Pretty soon you don't really have the connections to get your foot in the door anymore and the most you can offer in a conversation is that you're also from the area. Which as you can imagine doesn't mean much on it's own.
Recruiting is connections, a player's coach or mentor knowing the recruiter personally and vouching for them. When a HS guy jumps to college, the kids he knew directly are graduated and the other adults he knew moved on in one way or another it just makes them another recruiter.
I'm not sure what connections he has left or exactly how well he recruited at Ole Miss. Both could be great! I sincerely don't know and I'm curious.

The majority of his biggest recruiting wins were not in the area where he coached high school. He was very successful recruiting in the south.
February 6th, 2023 at 6:19 PM ^
Which makes this an added bonus this time around. In addition to being able to recruit the NJ area, he also has connections in the south which is crucial. I'm happy to have him back, although I'm not sure we'll have him long.
Does this mean Coach Harbaugh is easier to work for than some suppose? It's not like CP didn't have other options.

Maybe - Michigan is the 1A of the top brands in the big 10. Ole miss is... not anything in the SEC. with everyone paying money - and the shadiness of the bagmen somewhat behind us, i think ole miss' recruiting advantage is not there.
February 6th, 2023 at 12:59 PM ^
Yeah, he would have been recruiting against top-end SEC stalwarts like Alabama, Georgia, and LSU for local kids, let alone for nationally wanted playmakers. The guy from Ole Miss doesn't have the cachet that guys from those programs will have. Not even with the success Kiffen has had there.
Now insert the guy from Michigan, a peer program to Bama, UGA, LSU, et all, and it will be a big difference in interest.
February 6th, 2023 at 1:09 PM ^
Also- it isn't clear that his recruiting assignments were the same at Ole Miss as they were here. It is possible as a DC he had to take a more broad approach geographically and pulled from recruiting the NJ area (which is considerably farther from Ole Miss than it is from UM). At UM, he can focus on NJ where clearly his strengths are.
February 6th, 2023 at 2:17 PM ^
Partridge will recruit a lot more than just NJ. He needs to focus on his position group and I believe he added Georgia the last time around.
February 6th, 2023 at 2:57 PM ^
To be fair, Partridge was likely out of his element recruiting the Deep South against recruiting powers while at a second class program. All while also coordinating a defense.
He’ll likely be in a much more familiar and comfortable role back at Michigan.

Top recruiter! Apparently Helow is on his way out

Apparently Helow is on his way out
How do we feel about that? Don't really remember hearing strong impressions about Helow either way, although I feel like LB play took a step back...
February 6th, 2023 at 1:03 PM ^
Did it take a step back, though? Colson has continued improving, if only at a slower pace than we'd like. But Barrett improved drastically through the season. I think they held serve overall - which is somewhat disappointing, I guess? But I wasn't disappointed in their performance! So what does it all mean?
February 6th, 2023 at 2:05 PM ^
LB play may have taken a step back from 2021, but I thought that was expected no matter what. Josh Ross leaving, plus NHG being hurt all year, meant the 22 unit was down its best 2 players from 21. That was a huge blow to the LB corps.
I thought LB play was fine and showed decent progress considering that context. They got more than we were hoping out of Barrett and Colson, IMO.
February 6th, 2023 at 1:50 PM ^
33 - is it LB play? LB development? Or, LB recruiting?
February 6th, 2023 at 3:07 PM ^
Partridge is without a doubt an upgrade in the recruiting department. There’s absolutely no debate there.
As for on-field, I’ve heard next to nothing good or bad about Helow. Probably the most forgettable coach on the staff. While Partridge was considered a good assistant in his time here. So maybe Partridge is better, maybe it’s a wash and the recruiting benefit is the tie-breaker. But if Helow was a better on-field coach, I think that’s something we would be hearing about.
If it’s Partridge in for Helow, I see no reason to not be happy with the outcome based on what we do know.
February 6th, 2023 at 12:44 PM ^
Great news for sure. Let’s hope this will jump start recruiting efforts somewhat! Go Blue and welcome back CP!!
February 6th, 2023 at 12:47 PM ^
i think thats good - though i think he will have higher aspirations within a year or two. but if he can bring in a few ballers that'd be cool. i dont recall his chops as a coach - but i do as a recruiter!
wish he and the ole miss corner figured this out about 6 weeks ago
