Charles Woodson vs. Virgina

Submitted by Blue boy johnson on
Has anyone else noticed when Woodson enters the game on D for the first time? Passes were thrown in Woodson's direction twice soon after he entered the game and he nearly picked of both. Would it be to much to expect the same from J. T. Turner and/or Vlad? Serioulsy though, are we going to need true Freshman to step up and produce starting Sept. 5 to have a decent Defense.

It's too much to expect anyone to approach Woodson's level. In my opinion, it's somewhat irreponsible to even suggest this since it can contribute to the *buzz* that leads to disappointment and frustration all around. However, based on anecdotal evidence, my sense is that Vlad will be more than just servicable next fall.

It would be too much for us to expect true frosh and red shirt frosh to be the same (or even substantially similar) to the greatest defensive player ever at U of M, and CFB's only primarily defensive player to win the Heisman. Going one step further, it's safe to say my answer will always be "yes" if the question resembles, "is it too much/unrealistic/unfair/unreasonable to expect freshman Y to be just like [insert legendary freaking player]."

Donovan Warren is a true junior who I think will have a shot at all american this year if he plays up to his hype/potential and is healthy. Cissoko will be our other corner and despite being small I think he will be a shut down corner on all but the tallest players and he should be matched up against the second best receiver for any team. In the nickel package we will likely see JT Floyd, a redshirt freshman, who sounds like he is ready to play, but I wouldn't expect anyone to dominate like Woodson, arguably the best college db anywhere ever. So, no, I don't think we need a true freshman to step up at cornerback. If you are worried about saftey, then yes, I think we need Vlad to be precocious, but not like Woodson. And its Justin Turner true freshman and JT Floyd redshirt freshman.

....Justin Turner also goes by JT Turner. So we've got JT Turner and JT Floyd. And really, how can anyone say, "Well, Charles Woodson almost picked off two passes, so shouldn't JT Turner do the same?" Well, yeah, he might. Or he might not. He might slip on his butt and get burned by a Hiller TD pass. And he might catch 4 INT's in his first game. But what Woodson did in 1995 has no bearing on what will happen with the Impaler or JT Turner against the Broncos on September 5th. I think the D-backfield will be better than we think. Cissoko and Warren will play well, M. Williams and Woolfolk will be serviceable, and Floyd, Turner, Emilien and a couple others (Brandon Smith, or is he now a LB? Isaiah Bell?) will plug the depth chart.

How has no one commented on the hilarious typo in the title of this thread that turns that ludicrous topic into a giggle-worthy near sexual pun? And, yes. That's too much to ask. It's one thing to be an optimist. This... well, this is something else altogether.

I'll never forget a conversation I had at Touchdowns in the fall of 1995 with a friend that was also a team manager. He told me that Charles Woodson as a true freshman was a better cover corner than Ty Law who had just been drafted that previous April. I think my friend was spot on.

I was being sarcastic in comparing these Freshman to Woodson and duplicating his near interceptions, howeva I do think one or both will see significant time starting Sept. 5
