CFB Risk Week 2 Recap - I'm Back....and I'm Annoyed

Submitted by EastCoast Esq. on February 6th, 2023 at 5:49 PM

I'm very annoyed right now. Before we get into why, though, I want to extend a HUGE thank you to this community for wishing me well during my recovery. I'm not at 100% quite yet, but I'm getting there.

Also, huge props to crg for the recent recaps. Going forward, we'll be the voices (plural) of CFB Risk, posting under his name. Today, though, you get me.

Now....*narrows eyes*.....

When I left a week ago, we had a B1G Alliance, we were rapidly gaining players, and we were prepared to paint the south Maize yellow. There was a clear path to victory on behalf of the B1G even as Texas A&M rapidly expanded its footprint.

.....and then it kind of fell apart. On the Day 9 recap, SinCityWolverine commented that an alliance with OSU would not work. Unfortunately, he was right. And then he became even more right when Wisconsin publicly declared war on us. Meanwhile, Texas A&M is building a Death Star AGAIN and everyone's attitude seems to be "um.....fuck michigan. lol"

Like I said, I'm annoyed.

So what do I do when I'm annoyed? Control the controllables. We have by far the most players in the game, but I KNOW that we can get more. A couple iterations ago, we were peaking at 1k. So when we're tapering off at around 800, that signals to me that we have room to grow.

Yes, OSU (the next biggest force) only has ~500, but I don't care about OSU. We are the fanbase that wins the EDSBS Charity Bowl without fail. We are the fanbase that dominates at everything we put our minds to. CFB Risk should be ours. We are Michigan and we win.

So what does that mean for you? First, please sign up. The steps are below. It takes a bit of time to get started, but it's like 3 clicks a day once you're in.

Second, join the damn Discord. Half of our force is acting randomly every night, and it's gonna be really hard to win if we aren't on the same page.

Finally, recruit your Michigan friends. It's not a hard pitch. Just say "we're playing this silly game of Risk and we need help to destroy OSU and win." That usually does the trick. We know there are a lot of Michigan fans who are willing to click a few buttons to try to beat OSU. Let's get more of them on here.

And so, with all that said, I'm glad to be back. Now let's win this f*cking thing and GO BLUE!

Steps To Play Every Day

(1) Sign up for a reddit.com account if you don’t have one already

(2) Visit collegefootballrisk.com – Click Sign in with Reddit – Select Michigan as your team

(3) Join the Michigan Risk discord by going to https://discord.gg/9xtrWhyR

(4) Go to the "vetting" channel and type in your MGoBlog username and Reddit username.

(5) Once vetted, get your orders from the "orders" channel. (THIS IS IMPORTANT)

(6) Return to collegefootballrisk.com – Click on the blinking "target" icon at the bottom of the page (3rd button from the right), and then click on the territory you're attacking or defending.

(7) Talk trash with your fellow Wolverines as we prepare for tonight's roll.

At least we have that out of the way and can beat them up now. I think all of the reddit propaganda definitely contributed to the "fuck Michigan" vibe but that alliance was never going to hold. Best of luck with your continued recovery!

Every year the mods get sucked into these "alliances," and every year we end up getting stabbed in the back by our "allies" and set back several turns. It was dumb to think this year would be any different. We're obviously the strongest team in the game (by numbers, not strategy) and need to act like it.

I've played CFB Risk every year, and it's basically true. I get why, and I don't think it's because we're so great. We're hated by almost every fanbase. I hope we go chaotic evil next year and kneecap everyone (without the cloak and dagger). I'd like to play a round with maximum damage as the goal.

Joining discord is a good idea. When about half the fanbase has an alliance, and the other half doesn't, we don't really have an alliance. We had to dedicate half of our resources to defending and retaking existing territories from our allies every turn.
