CCHA Tournament, First Round Update

Submitted by hockeyguy9125 on

An update from the Game 1's of the First Round of the CCHA Tournament...

Northern Michigan defeated Bowling Green 6-3

Lake Superior State defeated Ohio State 4-0

-LSSU's freshman goalie made 48(!) saves including 21 in the second period for the shutout

Alaska defeated Michigan State 3-2 in OT

-MSU led the game 1-0 and 2-1, but Alaska rallied and scored with 20 seconds left in the first OT. Palmisano was in goal for MSU which kind of surprises me since Yanakeff has been solid for them against us at least (no idea how he has done against others or if he is injured)

Game 2's for each series take place tonight. If the teams that won yesterday win today the second round sets up like this next week:

#1 U-M v #8 LSSU, #2 ND v #7 Alaska, #3 Miami v #6 NMU, #4 WMU v #5 FSU

Also: GO BLUE, BEAT STATE!!!!!!

I love the the match ups for the 2nd round if all the home teams hold serve. Of the teams playing this weekend, it was (and still is) possible for UM to play either MSU or tOSU and even though they are "weaker" teams, they both have given UM trouble this year (though State hasn't scored in A2 all year). A Lake State and Alaska sweeps are good.

Bonus - UM stayed #4 in Pairwise, so a #1 seed is still very possible.

And, well because toady seems like a November Saturday... GO BLUE beat STATE!

i can be pissed at them for underachieving like a drunken father at his sons pee-wee football game

"C'MON YOU SISSY! YOU CALL THAT A PASS?!....such a disappointment. [drinks more]"

Hopefully Alaska and Lake State can win tonight and Bowling Green can pull the upset.

They've beaten the northerns before.

So Miami has to play Alaska and that's a better chance of them losing.

I hope Michigan's opponents are either Bowling Green or Lake State
