CC: WoJo's Latest Piece - nothing new, but nice read about RR

Submitted by michgoblue on
RoJo's latest, which actually contains a positive portrayal of RR. Aside from a few blips, WoJo is pretty decent in his coverage of Michigan. Before people start complaining - no, there is no new info in this article. Yes, Wojo expresses an opinion on the CC but even he is honest in saying that DB is not releasing any info. I posted this because many, like me, just want to read about Michigan, regardless of whether the reading provides exciting, breaking, or even informative info. http://detnews.com/article/20101230/OPINION03/12300312/1333/OPINION0318…

I'm with you. I don't really care to take (or hear) any more opinions on the CC, but I do like reading stuff about Michigan.

Mostly because I'm insanely bored at work.

Whether you like him as coach or not I have been very impressed with how RR has gone about his business during his time as our coach. I personally support the idea of bringing him back and hope that DB does indeed do so, but if not RR has earned my respect by handling the situation possitivly with the media and his team.

I have been very impressed with RR's handling of this whole awkward situation.  He has carried himself with class and dignity.  More importantly, he has managed to keep his team of approximately 100 18-22 year olds kids acting in a way that exemplifies the virtues of Michigan, all under an immense stress.

After the PSU game, I became firmly in the camp that RR - while still a good guy and dealing with circumstances some of which were beyond his control - should be fired at the end of the season.  I still somewhat think that, but the way that RR has conducted himself during this time period has gone a long way towards swaying my opinion back in his favor.

While I still think that a change should be made, if RR were kept, I would be 100% ok with this result.  With RR, we have a man with character and class similar to Lloyd Carr coaching at Michigan, and  that makes me happy.

From your keyboard to Yost's ears.  You captured totally how I feel about the situation except he lost me as a coach after the two blowouts at the end, capping 5 of them against the Big Ten power teams.

I'll defend how he has conducted himself as strong as I defend the players and their steady effort. The guy is exemplary in his conduct in the face of storm of crap from moment 1.  He got a pass for the banquet thing because of that fact.  How can we hold it against a guy that he still really wants to be here after all he has been through? We should probably celebrate it.

because we had just shown a bit of life before that game (offense aganist Iowa's vaunted defense), and Penn State was terrible up to then and was using their third string walk-on quarterback who had never played before.  Admittedly, it seems he is pretty good, but at the time, we had reason to think that their offense was just about as bad as our defense, and, instead, it seemed unstoppable.  That was the game where I started to lose faith in the current regime as well.  I'd still like them to stay, but that was the beginning of my losing my enthusiasm for defending them every day.

I heard the chaos coming out of PSU in the preseason and made mention many times that they would be a W this year.  As the season wore on, more and more on here also came to that opinion independently.

After that game...Having a bye week to prepare for a team that was about as one-dimensional as possible, the best we could do is PSU letting off the gas to not humiliate RR &Co.  That's when my opinion was cemented with RR being a great Offensive Coordinator, but not a head coach, yet.

The question in my mind then and now is will he be given the opportunity to "become" a head coach in a major conference.  I don't count the Big East as a major even though they are BCS.  Their representative in the BCS isn't even ranked!  I'd like to see him get one more year, but I also think the environment is too toxic now for that to happen.

If he does get another year, we'll just play this same game again next year unless he gets 10 wins.

Overall nice article.  However, one thing I don't quite get is why pundits like Wojo take so much for granted that Harbaugh is an "ideal" candidate.  Brandstatter kind of shot that one down in his comments the other day, specifically citing running a stop sign while DUI and the criticisms of Michigan's academic policies.  I'm not suggesting yay or nay to Harbaugh but those are valid concerns.
