"Inside the Pocket: Jim Harbaugh bound to disappoint Michigan"

Don't click the link; it would only encourage them.

We'll add this to their highly professional and totally unbiased take from last week:

"Jim Harbaugh should reject Michigan and coach the Raiders"

For those desperate to know what a "College Football 24/7 writer" writing at NFL.com thinks, basically it goes like...

1. Us.

2. How we'll see any other coach but Harbaugh:

3. Stuff this guy was saying a week ago:

4. And if we do get Harbaugh, he's a crazy man and will never really love us:

That is all.

The Niners have virtually no incentive to want Harbaugh making them look bad every Sunday. This may be the first article I've read that makes this obvious point.

He's been connected with the Michigan job since before Brady Hoke was fired, and if he wanted to leave to take over the Wolverines, the 49ers would reportedly not ask for any compensation to let him out of his contract early.

Yeha, I would think the only reason the 49ers would ask for nothing - not even a portion of the buyout - in this case is if this is precisely what they would rather Harbaugh did if he were to leave. Like others have said, they have no reason to let him go elsewhere in the NFL and potentially make them regret it.

No matter how this all ends up going down, I'm never going to trust mainstream NFL reporting again. They've either been sadly misguided or just plain ignoring the truth this entire time.

Ace retweeted a tweet from SI's Pete Thamel saying the Jets are not likely to pursue Harbaugh. They interviewed him before hiring Ryan and "... Woody wasn't impressed."

For writers that are so confident that Harbaugh would in no way, shape, or form, would disrespect Da Shield and shun the NFL for the college game, they sure have an incessant need to write a bunch of articles to make themselves feel better.

Get Jim Harbaugh

Should coach the Raiders? That is a DEAD END job. Michigan, however, is not. People willingly leave places like the Raiders. It is not a destination job. I don't give a fuck if it is only one of thirty-two jobs. Guys with Jim's pedigree don't willingly go there.

But its the NFL.  And frankly if ownership is going to hand him the keys to the team and say "Have at'er", wouldn't you?  I mean dealing with 18 year old kids whos minds change when the wind blows, dealing with donors and alum, dealing with the NCAA etc gets a little tiring.  Especially for a coach whos roster is half the size and he can go out and plug in anyone he wants.  Especially for a coach who recently sniffed a Superbowl and 2 NFC championship games.

The devil's in the details I guess.

It's actually 3 NFC Championship games. Those 18 year olds are gonna be in awe of Jim and his resume. You think NFL players are gonna care about what he did at UM, Chicago, Indianpolis, San Diego, Palo Alto or Santa Clara? NFL players care about their playing time, their contracts and their endorsement deals in that order. College kids are gonna run through walls for Jim. UM's admin is gonna give Jim the keys to the AD. In the NFL no matter what team he goes to he's gonna have FO issues and political issues. There's a reason Jim lost a locker room after 3 NFCCG's and a SB appearance. His message and style doesn't lend itself as well to the pro game as it does to the college game.

This morning's rumors seem to be all really positive.  Now tonight it feels like there has been a bit of a shift which is giving me bad vibes.  I felt great going into work this morning but now since I got home I feel like crap.  Shouldn't it be the other way around?  Damn you internet.  Please make a decision soon!

The current circumstances and the way things are shaping up make me skeptical of the NFL guys.

1. This is not a secret search at this point. Harbaugh could easily disavow his interest and hasn't.

2. Insider rumors seem to be a Michigan lean. NFL guys are not Michigan insiders. I doubt they're even close enough with any of the SF folks to be sure of what's going on.

3. The Michigan Athletic Department boldly showed its hand by sending out a birthday card to JH. If they weren't relatively certain, it's hard to imagine that they'd risk embarrassing a coach they're chasing if they hadn't even gotten at least a preliminary assurance from him.

That would be a Dave Brandon style screwup of royal proportions.

4. Assistant coaches' comments from other college and NFL teams seem to lend credence to the likelihood of a deal (examples: Durkin, Moeller).

5. Baalke acknowledged that the 49ers were contacted by Michigan and handled things the right way. I don't think Michigan contacts the 49ers unless there is a strong indication that Harbaugh will come.

Jim Harbaugh will be Michigan's coach in a few days.

Good points, but I think you left off the most important news of the day.  The AD running the coaching search telling all the players that he feels good about having their guy but that he wants to make sure everything is signed before moving on.

This gives me a lot more confidence than anything else I've seen to date.  The only opinion more important than Hackett's is the opinion of Jim Harbaugh.

... Rule #1 in any high-level search, HC or otherwise: you don't target only one candidate.  Otherwise, that person has you over a barrel and often uses you as leverage to get a counter-offer to stay put.  Think Les Miles and UM, twice.

The good news is that apparently isn't an option for Harbaugh with the 49ers.

But be clear about one thing: Hackett said nothing today (just like Harbaugh said nothing yesterday).  If for some reason UM-Harbaugh doesn't happen, then Hackett will serve up someone he believes is very capable.

He was CEO of a Fortune 500 company.  He's been around the block.  He knows everyone is replaceable.  Even himself, eventually.

guy in place already. If Harbaugh says no then the next day Mullen is introduced as the coach. We will not be disappointed as a fan base, once we reconcile that Harbaugh said no to the World.

(For the record I obviously want and believe Harbaugh will say yes)

on the time frame I think.  On Friday when Marcellus Wiley announced the deal was all but done, Buckeyes were quite respectful and many were relishing the thought of the game once again being relevant.  As the idea of Harbaugh to Michigan started to sink in their attitude has changed to one of denigration.  I believe this is a defensive reflex on their part not unlike whistling past the graveyard.

Yes they are.

They have had several threads about Harbaugh and every one of them consists of dozens of commenters either saying "lol he's not going to Michigan in a million years" or "lol he's never won anything lol" peppered in with maybe 2-3 Cassandras (to steal a phrase from Brian) who are acknowledging the threat to their dominance. Keep in mind that eleven warriors consists of many people who did not experience the '90's first hand and so they don't know the feeling of being dominated by their rival and that it can actually happen.
