You know if this was something Brandon was doing he would call a press conference and spend 2 hours explaining that he has no comment while reporters passed out from lack of oxygen.

Do you think there is any chance that this is just Michigan giving a bunch of  different numbers to different people in order to find out who may be a leak? If they already have talked to Harbaugh and either agreed or were turned down there is no harm in using this as a way to find leaks

it will take zero NFL takers to get him to UM. If Jim allowed his agent to do that it says he isn't coming. We can't offer much more as a CFB program. Alma mater, highest paid coach at any level of football, total control, etc. If the agent leaked it and Jim allowed it, we have an answer. Basically, the party that turned this from rumor to fact will be what gives us our common sense answer. The only way it's good is if it was us and even that isn't good, IMO. Yet, we can't wait until 2015 to be told "no". So, if us, best to get to work on others if we leaked it to force his hand as that will lead to a decline, IMO. The offer would be good because a whole lot of guys suddenly become interested with numbers even close to that.

Regardless of what happens, I am happy with the AD.  A couple of months ago we were wondering if Michigan wanted to be a football school anymore and talking about a long decline into Purdue territory.  In addition, we were worried that Brandon wouldn't be fired or that Hoke would be retained.  Now we know we went after Harbaugh and made him an offer to be the highest paid coach in football.  In short, we have done everything we could and its out of our hands.  We have given Harbaugh an offer that he will take unless he just doesn't want to be a college football coach.  That's all we can do.  The AD brought it and came with their strongest offer.  There should be no regrets at this point if Harbaugh just doesn't want it.

If he doesn't take the offer, I am confident we will get a quality coach.

In 2011 I think...we offered JH like $5M or so.  The 49er offer was around $4M or something.  UM's offer was used to leverage a better offer from the 49ers (still not as good as UM) which obviously Harbaugh took.

The only way we get Harbaugh is if he is disillusioned with the NFL or feels that his style isn't a fit there.

Otherwise we may see on 12/29 a repeat of 2011....

We made an offer to Harbaugh. If, say, Miles calls and says I'll accept that offer today, we might think about it, but we'd probably say that offer is only for Harbaugh, but if he rejects it we will make you an offer at that time. It might make us overpay, but it demonstrates we won't lowball a candidate we really want. In addition to MGrowOld's points above, one effect it does have is to constrain the 49ers negotiating position. An NFL team that wants Harbaugh knows it will have to extend him at roughly that 6/49 level, or he won't take it. You have to really want him at that price, as it's no longer a take-a-flyer on him proposition. Hackett has done an excellent job at clearing away the trappings and making it squarely about what Harbaugh wants. Does he want to be a billionaire? Does he want a Super Bowl? Does he want NCs? How important is his family quality of life, and what's the best spot for that? Who are you? What do you want? http://youtube.com/watch?v=HJT5XBT6oRM

could he possibly say?  The man still has the rest ofthe season to go.  He's smart enough to know better.  Any other comment other than no comment is grounds to dismiss him as a candidate.
