CBSsports: Harbaugh not interested in Michigan job

Submitted by michgoblue on
For the latest in Harbaugh news - this less positive - CBssports claims that "sources close to the coach maintain he is not interested."

Keep in mind that the article is primarily focused on the possibility of Harbaugh landing with the Raiders, does not name a source and is generally NFL focused, but still not encouraging to read. Aside from the above, the article also cites the usual "family doesn't want to move" and "family close to Hoke" reasons for his unlikeliness to move.

As with everything to date, take this for what it is worth - likely, not much - but I have noticed a greater number of not-going-to-happen comments from national media types lately. Obviously, there is a huge echo chamber effect with the media needing to fill a complete void of information re: Harbaugh or our search, so stories will often written with little to no actual information.

Harbaugh has apparently seen his style wear thin at SF. Does that mean he's also come to accept that his style is better suited for college? Or does it mean he doubles down to show the world they are wrong? Is he objective enough to know the role of a NFL front office in success, is he accomplished enough to get more than average authority with personnel decisions? Finally, who and what does Harbaugh serve? His family? An ego that says a NFL championship is the only thing to quench its thirst? Or is it an ego that can be satisfied with college success? Jim Harbaugh is an emotional man.

Tom Brady is tired of getting beat up by opposing linemen and has decided to go to Michigan as the new head coach. It's not Bellichek from the Pats; it's Brady.

I figure this is as good a speculation as most of the the things I have read.

Is that, people like Jon Chait excepted, reporters are not often going to be the sharpest tools in the shed. Consider the number of contradictions in this article. It argues against itself. Harbaugh's family/wife insists he needs to stay in the Bay Area, but he'd go to Miami/NY/Chicago. He is "not a candidate at Michigan" but conspicuously evades the question every time he is asked. Those are just the two that immediately come to mind. I don't know if he's coming, but the people who really DO know haven't said anything at all. A reporter with an active brain cell would have figured that out by now.

The folks that have said he is coming have also said there is going to be a large smokescreen set up to keep the heat off of him while the Niner's season is still going. AKA don't believe anything until Michigan actually hires someone or Harbaugh signs a deal with someone. All these news "sources" are just blowing smoke. I'm not saying Harbaugh is coming for sure, but the smokescreen is not unexpected. Hackett said wait until after Xmas break. So wait already.

This would really bum me out

I hate the raiders, i love harbaugh, and there's nothing more I want in football than for jim harbaugh to be the HC for the university of michigan football team.

I didn't mind watching him make SF an elite team, I actually would watch the 9ers just because he was coaching there... Raiders.... ugh... Please come home, Jim.
