Caution: Massachusetts

Submitted by Gopherine on

Now that I have sufficiently abated a minor heart attack caused by the Aryan Nation's favorite tight end*, I started looking at that tasty cupcake coming down the conveyor belt. It turns out that UMass is ranked 69th overall by Sagarin: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbt10.htm

UMass is slotted as the third best I-AA team, ahead of Appy State. It's also better than UConn and about half of the rest of I-A. I know it's too early for Sagarin's rankings to mean much (if they ever do), but UMass is not a team we can afford to overlook.

*seriously, look at the guy:  http://www.und.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/rudolph_kyle00.html.  I'm not implying he is a Nazi, but goddamn would the Fourth Reich sure like to have him.

I see your point, I doubt anyone is taking Mass for granted, but really.. how can you definitively say UMASS is better than UConn? Are you serious?

EDIT: the "You" here is more of a general, how can anyone...  Maybe i'm naive.

I won't even comment on the Nazi part.

current players like Banks, Mouton, Schilling and to name a few on the teams who was on the team that experienced THE HORROR.  They will remind them about it and would not allow anybody to rest lightly on UMass.  Plus RR will use James Madison win over VT as a reminder too.

I'd doubt that Michigan will rest lightly against UMass.  Michigan still has a "us against the world" mentality and wants to have a great season for RR.

There's no way we get lower than 6.0 YPC this weekend. I'd venture even 7.0 but with so many back-ups getting PT I would like to just leave it at 6. So get ready for a 400+ yd rushing day and another M victory

First, +1 for the Aryan reference and to heck with any PC whining; thought the same thing watching the game Saturday. Second, this is the exact team that LC would sweat, but not RR. I know many of you want to shout "Toledo!" but Toledo was not caused by anything but mismatched personnel and team un-chemistry. RR never sweated these games as his system became established. This is exactly why I gave Martin my permission to hire RR - my brain could not tolerate any more Ball State games.

when I looked at their schedule.  They're legit (for FCS).  I don't think RR will allow any letdown, but I'll never feel comfortable again playing an FCS team.  Any RATIONAL fan wouldn't be worried, but I'm not one of them.  Wasn't before Appy St, and definitely not after.   Let's hope they come out and score TDs on the first two drives and get two 3-n-outs.  Then the fear of DOOOM might lessen.

Typically the quality of the FCS team doesn't matter if you can simply out talent them. I mean, even the dreaded App State has lost every game it's played against FBS teams not named "Michigan". As long as we're fully prepared and not looking either ahead or behind, there shouldn't be any problems here.

Needs to blast UMass back into the Stone Age. First, because they ought to be able to impose their will on the smaller D-line. Second, because, well, they're from Massachusetts -- home of Hahvahd. That should be reason enough.

RR coached football teams do not overlook any one.  I do not think there will be any problem with UMass.  We are much faster, much bigger to allow UMass to stay in the game for the whole 4 quarters.  I definitely give UMass some respect, but they're no UConn or ND.
