Cal-Poly hit with NCAA probation for extra book money

Pretty straight forward. Apparently some book stipends for players were “excessive” or over the allowable limit. School to vacate wins where ineligible players paid. Guess this is what happens when you don’t get caught on wiretap discussing payments to players. The NCAA is such trash!

I’m on mobile. Apologies if the format sucks!

To be honest giving more money for a books stipend sounds like a smart way to cover up paying your players given that at a school like Cal Poly athletes being students is actually a thing. So it wouldn't seem odd that your players need more money for books.

So Cal Poly gets penalized for giving players enough money to buy books.  And UNC gets off scott-free for sending 'students' to admittedly fake classes.

Seems about right.  The NCAA is a completely fucked up institution...

NCAA is irrevelant and a new system should be set up - I don't see how they don't punish Izzo, Coach K, LSU, Kansas, AZ, etc for cheating or other violations. But punish a decent school giving money for actual school related items, while other players families are getting houses, cars, job.

How's that possible? Damn... I needed an extra loan just for my books, they ARE EXPENSIVE!

Or maybe they were black market books, with test exploits in the margins? Hmmmmm
