Agreed, but you have to start somewhere.  Landing Harrison would be another big step as would Haskins entering the draft, and finishing the 2019 class ranked ahead of OSU, and getting them at home next season.  It COULD set up nice for just that.

The Buckeye Nation mindset kind of explains the school's actions.

This year OSU's leadership made clear they're more worried about what Buckeye football fans at large think than the opinions of the actual university community, who care about the school's reputation and were much more critical of Meyer and the AD from the start.

I heard that about Michigan once upon a time...(and not that long ago, it was someone trying to put Brady Hoke's strong recruiting in perspective.)  Unless it's their childhood dream team, kids generally want to play for a coach not a school.  Right now, Ryan Day doesn't have the cachet the Urban had.

I do respect his decision.

Day said he's going to focus more on recruiting Ohio. I guess it's smart to acknowledge he won't be able to recruit nationally at Meyer's level. This recruit is from Texas, which has been fertile ground for Meyer lately.

They'll do fine going forward, but if I were a commit that was repeatedly told Urban would be around next year, I'd be a little pissed.

Interesting post.

Meyer said the reason he made his decision now was because they didn't want to mislead recruits - that's bullshit, of course.

The new rules say, if a coach leaves after the early signing period, kids can leave also - that's the real reason.

Im very interested in seeing who declares for the draft.  Would like to see most of em go,  have a dip in recruiting,  and then boom,  before you know it,  1 year later and the talent is pretty much equal on the roster. Also curious to see how the staff moves shake out.

Maybe this works out, given what Meyer built over there, there's a lot of margin for error, but just handing Day the job was an insane move, he could easily be their Brady Hoke.

I think it's premature to assume anything.  There just isn't enough data to predict much of Day and we don't yet know who will be on his staff or which juniors enter the draft.  But, history would say it's unlikely the next 7 years would be as successful as the last 7 years.  Urban is one of the best of all time and it's unlikely Day will be, even given the situation and talented roster he walks into.  Even if he's really good it will hard to maintain Meyer's W/L and recruiting record.  That is good for us.
