Buckeye Players Dissent with Big Ten United

Submitted by MDSup3rDup3 on August 7th, 2020 at 1:25 PM

In a surprise to approximately no one, Tuf Borland has put out a statement on behalf of the TSDS football players, saying they don't feel exploited. Then again, when you're being paid to be there, it's probably a different calculus.

This very tweet is probably what saved the young man's education.... without this and the publicity it received, he may never have attended another class....

unless you were there with him while he was tweeting it, discussing what was in his mind... who the fuck are you to decide what the context was?

Leave it to the world's least honest sports academy program to participate in *anti* activism. Boots taste delicious when you're an employee as opposed to a student, I guess.

At this point OSU football seems to operate more as a cult than a program.

In today's environment of college athletics where you have a nationwide movement of P5 players challenging the status quo, forming union-like petition groups, requesting a share of the billions in revenue they by-and-large generate, opting out of the season for health reasons or business decisions...

You have OSU - from the Athletic Director down to their players - not just withholding their comments on the matter, but actually speaking out against the movement, with the players specifically so clearly a huge benefactor if the movement achieves any level of success. Players who clearly stand to make a vast amount of money pending their health and well being at the end of the season. Players who have been asked to sign accountability waivers to affirm their commitment to the season and the program.

When you add all these components together, it makes me wonder what kind of football utopia have they developed down in Columbus where a player would want to stand against being paid fairly and in compliance with NCAA regulation, play an abbreviated season - no questions asked - mired by a global pandemic despite a pending massive pay-day in the spring so long as they maintain their health, and go as far to sign some kind of document that assures they are totally committed to the program in the face of massive health and safety concerns related to playing football next month.

Once again, could just be a fortuitous bounce for the Buckeyes.. but if you believe that is all that's going on here, I have some volcano insurance you might also be interested in.

Probably. This thread just reads like a bunch of MSU fans ragging on U of M because of a perceived injustice... when in reality, had the UM players said the same thing.. they'd be applauded on this board.

I like coming here because generally the discourse is intelligent and interesting, but threads like this really bring out the humorous side of UM fandom.

You like coming here because the discourse is intelligent and interesting and then say that we sniff farts and to be careful where we throw rocks as a fan of a team that has beaten us all but three times in the last two decades...... Sounds like you just came to throw rocks yourself in an unintelligent manner.

Completely honest question... swap out Tuf Borland's name with one of UM's captain's... what's your response to the post?

I'm happy to take the negs and the jabs (I'm an OSU fan on a UM blog), but just curious what the inverse would be if it were the UM players posting this. I'd like to think most of us fans are much closer in ideology than fan blogs would suggest.

Happy Friday to you, either way.

I’d say it’s misguided and against their own self interest. Because that’s what I think it is. Are there homers here? Sure. I think your mudslinging is completely disingenuous and you aren’t actually interested in what you say you’re here for when you come and insult Michigan fans.

Fair enough. I'll insult the "holier than thou" UM crowd all day every day.. which this thread has some shades of. I have many U of M fan friends, it's fun to engage in some banter back and forth with them. Read my commenting history if you think I'm here for anything other than dialogue and some occasional banter... I harbor no ill-will for anyone here. As I said above, I typically appreciate the discourse here.

Happy Friday.. enjoy your weekend Bacon.

Misguided, unnecessary, harmless are the words that come to mind if Michigan players did it.

Which are the same words that came to mind when OSU players did it.

This is not revolutionary.

(That's my word today because I saw the trailer for the Fred Hampton movie this morning and I cannot WAIT to see that film).

The OSU players can do what they want...

That B1GUnited thing wasn't specific to them or even football, but whatever. If they find it necessary to say they feel differently...great.

I just don't see what is so revolutionary about disagreeing with something that wasn't controversial in the first place.

If all the B1G said we're about Chick-Fil-A and OSU was like "nah, we like Wendy's"...that would even be more controversial than what this is.

Stop gassing yourselves as pioneers. This, ain't that.
