Brionte / Recruiting Thread

Submitted by 1464 on

Haven't seen a thread about recruiting today, which is my biggest interest from now until the bowl game.  Here is a LINK which quotes Brionte as saying he does not want to play in a spread offense.  Not exactly new news but it is the first quote I've seen directly from him.

Any other recruiting updates?

Well, I can see why some would think the emergence of Fitz might give people reason to wonder how many touches will be available next season.  And someone like Rawls might wonder what his role would be with both Fitz and Dunn in the fold next season, if that were to happen.

But there are a few things to keep in mind - first, injuries are a part of life and could happen any time and open a window.  Second, Trent Richardson did just fine sharing a backfield with Mark Ingram.  And our very own Gorgeous Borges was the OC for that last time 2 RB's from the same team were each picked in the top 5 in the NFL draft - when Ronnie Brown and Cadillac Williams were picked from Auburn by the Dolphins and Bucs, respectively.  And yes, they had a mobile QB, who was also picked in the first round of that draft.

By the way, let's not forget that while Fitz has 2 years of eligibility left, he could also leave early.  Consider the way he played at the end of the season.  If healthy, it's not insane to think that he could put together a 1,600 yard season next year with 15+ TD.  Depending on what other RB's declare for the draft after next season, he could be in a good position to make the move.  Not that I want him to, by any means, but recruits who consider all the factors could certainly think that.

By the way, if Dunn commits and looks good early and works in some of those touches, that 5-10 per game, I think it cuts into some of the other carries but not too much.  Shaw is gone after the bowl game, Smith is more a 3rd down back/reciever at this point, and Hopkins is a FB, basically.  The past 2 games there have been 111 carries.  Denard could get 15 - 20 carries, and Fitz have 20 - 25, and still have room for carries from Dunn and others (Rawls).

are doing a very thorough job evaluating what's best for Brionte, as they should.  That's why they've been looking at Michigan I'm sure.  Hopefully, they'll be immune to the flim-flam pitch that Meyer will most likely throw at them at the last minute.  I'm really glad that Coach Jackson will be visiting this week.

But trying to look at things somewhat objectively in terms of what's best for Dunn, it looks like Michigan would be the best choice from strictly a football viewpoint (not sure what his academic interest is).  Michigan will be running the type of offense he wants to play in, has a great opportunity for early playing time, has an awesome offensive line class coming in, an experienced coaching staff, and guys he knows coming here (Kalis and Thomas to name a few).

I don't see what the big deal is re: Dunn wanting OSU in his heart but being pulled to Michigan using his head (assuming that is a correct read on his feelings which...who knows, since he is good at playing close to the vest (which I admire)) - Michigan wasn't my first choice either when I was choosing colleges, but once I went I never gave a second thought and wouldn't trade my experience there for anything.  Both we and he will be fine if he commits to Michigan.

I'd wait until after the new year to announce.  He's enrolling early and I would not put it past some evil HS admin with ties to OSU to figure out a way to prevent him from graduating early because he is headed to Michigan.

I think there's still love for Rawls, but we want many RBs, and Dunn is a good one.  Not only that, but if we take Dunn, it means he won't go to OSU.

RBs don't always pan out, they get banged up and they rotate relatively often.  No matter how good Rawls is, we want a few good RBs on the roster.

i work in the canton area with a friend of dunn's family.  the latest word (after he talked with urban last night) is that he's made up his mind and he's going to michigan.  they also stated that he is *not* enrolling early but didn't give a reason for that.  i can't confirm anything since i don't know dunn so take it with a grain of salt.

I'm not saying you're wrong because none of us now but we've been hearing the whole thing about him secretly decommiting and deciding he's going to Michigan for months now with none of it verified or substantiated. At this point I'm just going to assume he's going to Ohio and allow myself to be pleasently surprised if he decides to come here. We will be fine with him or without him and if he decides to not come here then we are in a better position to get a player of his caliber next year. I'm not even mad.
