Brian on WTKA today

I don't think anyone wants Bacon back as much as Brian. Though he has a beautiful radio voice, I don't think he's cut out to handle idiot radio callers on a weekly basis. It sounds like it's driving him nuts. Hard when someone else is screening the calls, and you can't just delete or impose the banhammer on the most egregious. Though it did do my heart a lot of good to see Dave from Phoenix gets slapped down. God, they let that guy get away with too much on that radio station. (At least with Phil from Detroit he's kinda a running joke...).

Brian didn't go apeshit on Phil. That guy talks out of his ass every time he calls. I cringe every time I hear JJ come on the radio and compare the days of Woody and Bo to now or Dave from Pdoenix get on his soapbox. I never call talk radio. I hosted a call-in sports talk show for a year back in the early 90s and you get the same callers every day and they say the same tired shit all the time, no matter what facts you lay before them. I figured out a long time ago that most people that call talk radio just want to hear themselves talk.

"Why doesn't Rich Rod have them wearing leather helmets?!?! They used to back in the day, and were way faster!" I've only called to a few stations myself (or sent a couple of emails), and it's almost always not to have MY opinion out there, but to refute some wild ass stuff someone says on there. Like Rich Leach. LOL Though I did guarantee after we lost our last regular season game in 2003 that we would win the rest of our games, and go to the Rose Bowl. (Wasn't looking too good at halftime of the Minnesota game...). And then called back in to say everyone back on the bandwagon could take a hike.

but those guys were asking for it, especially Dave from Phoenix who comes across, to me, like a conspiracy theorist by his tone and apparent desire to constantly be the dissenter. And JJ, gotta love the guy but he's stuck in the past. He keeps saying Michigan has to get bigger up front, etc, yeah, we'd like that too as long as the guys can move. You don't block with your belly.

Kinda digging it. But it just sounds like a painful experience for Brian to go through. And they can't be possibly paying him that much money for the suffering. And Dave...he hated Lloyd-ball...he hated all our basketball coaches....you are right on it, he just wants to be the contrarian.

What is the order of dumbassery among these clowns? Here is my ranking: 1. Dave from PHX 2. JJ from ... who knows/cares 3. Ron from Ann Arbor 4. the "sick and tired" guy [EDIT- Tied for 4th: El Hombre"] 5. Defran- I really think he could be 1A for allowing these bozos so much airtime 6. Linda from Grand Blanc 7. High Octane Mike 8-10. Beatniks, any order.

I now realize that Linda is a local legend. She is no longer, and never should have been, a member of this list. I was wrong and I apologize. However, I do know enough about the remainder to know that these are legitimate members of this list and this is my proposed revised ranking: 1. Dave from PHX (King Midas, except everything he utters is pure tinfoil) 2. Phil from Detroit (2nd in command of the HMS Know Nothing) 3. JJ from Lincoln Park (He's never found an opportunity to mention Woody Hayes that he didn't like; I want to go back in time and burn every copy of that book Hayes allegedly wrote so that JJ's dad never reads and ingrains it into JJ) 4. Greg from Saginaw (I haven't been to Saginaw before, but I wouldn't be shocked if Greg was calling from a padded cell at the local insane asylum) 5. El Hombre (don't know whether the others are walmart wolvies, but he claims to have attended Michigan; everytime he does, Michigan falls one spot in the U.S. News college rankings. we are now behind some school in Trinidad & Tobago). 6. Ron from Ann Arbor (I really want to make him #2, but there are so many reasons why the people above him deserve to be there) 7. Defran (he just doesn't care) tie with High Octane Mike (i'm surprised he knows of the word octane) 8-10. Beatniks, any order. For whatever reason, I feel like Bob and Marcus from Birmingham and Novi, respectively, might also need to be included. Am I incorrect about this? Here are the people you just want to hear talk about Michigan football all day: BCook, Copey, Dennis from the OC, Michael Taylor, John Bacon, the football coach from Pinckney, and of course Linda. What are your guys' rankings of persons fair and foul?

Actually, Michael Taylor is starting to get a little too "I played the game so you can't comment on it" lately, which would close this blog down fast (just because you played a game doesn't mean you know what's best on how to run an athletic program). I noticed he hasn't called in as much lately since the team is tanking. Except to castigate Phil, of course.

Yeah, I thought Greg from Saginaw was the worst. Though Dave is catching up. I haven't been able to stand Michael Bradley, El Hombre, since he wrote the article for Sporting News College Preview in 1997 that said Michigan was done and the M stood for Mediocre. Typical East Coast Michigan grad hater. (No offense to the more reasonable East Coasters). And there are a couple of guys who regularly call who I swear sound drunk, morning, afternoon, whenever they call. And you forgot Phil from Detroit..

JJ is a good old loyal UM fan, but it's painful to hear the same sad recitations of quotes from Woody Hayes and Bo as panaceas for what's ailing us. The team's troubles have spared us his semi-weekly rant about Willie Heston, at least. And his maize and blue dobber is down every week but his cholesterol is up. What the hell is a dobber? Dauber? Dave in Phnx fancies himself in the Jim Carty mold, the courageous lone truth-teller to power out in the desert who singlehandedly is keeping the flame of UM integrity alive in the face of RR's devious assaults on it. He was saying that Beilein didn't know what he was doing, too, but had to quiet down a bit by the end of last season, too. He has every bit of Carty's smugness, too, if not more. You should hear former UM QB Michael Taylor give it to Phil. Calls him the King of I Don't Know Nothin' About Football every time, and says it to his face, so to speak. I've been listening to the station since 1994, and I think Ron from Ann Arbor has been calling in for most of that time. He's a loyal UM fan, but I can't honestly recall him ever calling in with something other than a relentless "doom is coming because our coaches are idiots" approach. He routinely castigated Carr, too, so I think it's simply a reflection of his personality, which isn't cheery and optimistic, to put it mildly. Greg in Saginaw was hilarious, but he got banned a couple of years ago because he was such a jackass. You could feel the spittle flying out of him during his calls. I always picture him as living in a van down by the river.
