Brian Jean-Mary New Linebackers Coach

Per Michigan Football’s Instagram account, Brian Jean-Mary has been named the new Linebackers coach. So much for the fretting over Tank Wright.

Forgive me if I am wrong, but isn't Jay Harbaugh our RB Coach?  The last 5 years, objectively, have to be one of the worst 5 year stretches in the last 30 years of Michigan football when it comes to lack of talent at the RB position.  Higdon was the best we had and he didn't even end up getting drafted.

I wouldn't say Jay Harbaugh is a bad coach, but are any other Head Coaches out their without the last name Harbaugh, looking to hire Jay Harbaugh?  If he is an amazing coach you would want around for the next 20 years, why aren't other coaches snatching him up to be a Coordinator?

Jay Harbaugh has been the RBs coach since 2017, so the last three years. In 2018 he coached Higdon to the first 1,000 yard season at Michigan since 2011 and was six yards away from doing it the year prior. On the trail, his evaluations have proven to be excellent, with Hassan Haskins turning from a nondescript 3-star to a co-starter, and having Charbonnet break the freshman TD record. He landed Charbonnet from across the country and watched him blow up to become a top-50 player. Blake Corum has had a similar ascent in the rankings and Harbaugh held off a strong OSU push to keep him in the class. You can say that there hasn't been talent in the RB room these past few years, but next year it will be loaded and Jay Harbaugh is the main factor for that.

If Jay has been the primary recruiter for ZC and Corum then a mea culpa from me.  I wasn't aware of that.

There definitely hasn't been talent in the RB room the last couple of years.  Next year will be a bit better. To say Michigan will be "loaded" at the position is a bit of a stretch.

Haskins ceiling is an average B10 RB.  Zero elite athletic qualities.  Jury is still out on ZC with him being injured.  Hopefully Corum can come in and be the elite back we haven't had in a decade.

I wouldn't say Haskins lacks "elite athletic qualities", whatever that means.  He's got great balance and the ability to fall forward and generate yards after contact.  Is he a homerun threat?  No.  But he's fast enough in the open field and a bear to take down.  For a low 3* guy that's pretty impressive.

i love when someone talks out their ass, and is shown they don't even know what they are talking about but still will continue to argue to show everyone else how smart they think they are. you could not possibly know what you are talking about.... unless you are somehow smarter then everyone else in the program.

While Mike Hart was at Michigan, Michigan averaged 163 yards per game as a team at exactly 4.0 yards per carry. That’s over a 4 year period. The team never averaged over 175 yards per game in any season that he was here.
Since Harbaugh has taken over coaching the running backs the team has averaged 177 yards per game at 4.4 yards per carry. I haven’t done the math for the years Anthony Thomas and Tyrone Wheatley were at Michigan but just from first glance the averages will be right around the same as Harbaugh’s seasons.

Apparently you are. He’s been the RBs coach for three years.

Year 1: we had three backs go for over 500 yards, with one falling just short of 1,000 yards. Two of those three backs averaged over 6 yards per carry.

Year 2: We had our first 1,000 yard back since 2011. Falling just short of 1,200 yards while missing a game. Top three backs all averaged over 5 yards per carry.

Year 3: With an incredibly young running back room (only Tru Wilson wasn’t a freshman or redshirt freshman) we saw our top two backs combine for over 1300 yards and 15 TDs. Two of our three backs averaged over 5 yards per carry (Charbonnet was at 4.9) and we saw Charbonnet break the freshman rushing TD record.

So yes. Our running backs have performed well under Jay. Just because we don’t have a bell cow back that takes 25 carries a game doesn’t change how the unit performs.

That’s my biggest issue with the hate he gets. People only point to Michigan not having one workhorse back like Taylor or Dobbins. What one individual does is irrelevant. I don’t care if we have a 1,800 yard back. If the unit is producing, that’s what matters. His job isn’t to get one back to lean on. His job is to get the most production out of the running back unit as he can. And he HAS done a good job of doing that.

People don’t like him because his dad is the head coach and they don’t think he deserved the job in the first place. But there isn’t a sound argument that can be made against the fact that he has been a good position coach and every unit he has had a hand in, has been a positive.

Since there’s no link or any other information regarding Jean-Mary, I will add that he coached at Texas, USF and Ga Tech.

Has DC experience and was also UT’s recruiting coordinator for a couple of years.

Having lived next to Apopka for almost 10 years, Apoka isn't "Joe Milton" country.  Milton was from Olympia HS I believe.  That is deep in the belly of Orlando.  Apopka is a good almost hour North of Orlando and isn't the thriving economical area Orlando is.  But, Apopka is one talent rich football area that is for sure.  Apopka was Jeremy Gallon country if I remember correctly.

So... Camp and Partridge leave... we get Jean-Mary, Shoop and Tank?

Just read an article saying Tank was recruiting for Michigan already about an hour ago.... lol
