Brendan Rice trending away from Michigan

Wiltfong and Tom Loy switching their crystal balls. Seems to be trending towards Colorado. Wouldn’t be a huge loss, but a possession, handsy type receiver all teams need.

Been saying this for years. He may have said it in a sarcastic way, but why would a top notch WR recruit come to Michigan!? The last few years the offense has wasted DPJ, Collins, and Black (some injuries haven't helped). I was hoping Speed in Space would fix that, and it still may.  But, until the offense gets the WR's more targets, top WR recruits are crazy to come to Michigan.

247 Sports reporters recently mentioned that Brendan has ‘fallen in love with the process.’  Would love to have him, but he might string this along for a while.  3* prima-donnas are probably not #1 on the staff’s want list or Maizen’s want list.

What did Hatter say that's incorrect?

We dont have OSU's position depth (except QB)

Our Oline does go to shit if one guy gets hurt

We do have our ex FB playing defensive line

Have you watched either of their first two games?  Unless they fall apart or we get our shit together in the next couple of months that game in November is going to be about as much fun as all the other OSU games this century.

Colorado’s offense looked fun this weekend. They were spreading the field, taking deep shots, giving their receivers chances to make plays (ran a flea flicker that turned into a 96-yard TD). If you compare it to our offense I honestly don’t know why any receiver recruit would want to play football at Michigan.

It baffles me that teams like OU and OSU can run offenses where receivers are running free. Yes, before you say anything, I know OSU gets 5 star elite level athletes and that helps them get even more separation. But I watch guys just running free constantly with these teams. Michigan has arguably a top 5 receiving trio in the country. Even without DPJ, they still have athletes. Imagine OSU being in a close game and running it for about 3-4 yards for every single play. I haven’t studied film on those teams, so I don’t know the intricacies of how those receivers are getting so open on a consistent basis. But our offensive staff should have studied other offenses all offseason and cherrypick ideas from them on how to REALLY get athletes in space.

I’m hoping Gattis is getting a feel for playcalling and/or he is saving his real offense for big games, no offense to army (pun not intended). I’m definitely overreacting but I don’t think it’s uncalled for given what we’ve seen these first two weeks, especially with how Maryland’s offense has absolutely torched teams.

From an OSU play calling/design perspective, a lot of it this year has been mixing up route combinations and multiple formations. We'll line up in trips to the wide side of the field to run a bubble screen, and then later in the game, use the same formation to run a post with curls. One play that has been prominent in the first two games is rolling the pocket (primarily to the right) and have curls/outs with a run off. In nearly every instance, the defender on the short-to-mid range route will come up to keep Fields from running, and Justin will drop it over him for an easy completion. We've also run more 2 and 3 TE sets in these first two games than seemingly the entire time Urban was here. And we're doing it both out of shotgun and under center.

The one thing we haven't run nearly at all yet are the crossing routes that have given you guys fits for the past few years. Day actually commented on it today, saying it was part of the playbook Justin still didn't seem comfortable with yet, noting that the windows for those routes will get even smaller in conference play. I hope that was insightful/useful.

The receivers run free because good teams exploit matchups.  Michigan never seems to do that or they assume they have a good matchup which isn’t.  Going into the Army game I assumed that our Oline, with a decided size advantage, would be able to push Army all over the field. I assumed our “NFL” caliber receivers and QB would play pitch and catch all day against Army’s smaller “slower” DB’s. Neither happened. Army played with incredible heart and effort and their preparation and coaching were better than ours.

Colorado's WR Darrin Chiaverini is a super star, both as a coach and a recruiter. Tucker had to slap an "Assistant Head Coach" title on him to keep him when Tucker was hired.

He played at CU, he recruits passionately, and he's put guys in the league. Obviously Michigan recruiting is on another plane from Colorado, but when Colorado is involved with a WR, I don't bat an eye. He's up there with Oklahoma's coach Bedenbaugh being involved with an OL (although Oklahoma recruits better than Colorado).

He had Colorado legitimately in play for 5* Kyle Ford.

Short of some kind of drastic change in philosophy if you're a wide receiver why do you come to Michigan? Nobody wants to get targeted three times a game and be happy with it.
