Bowl Night Games Open Thread

Would not have minded playing USC in the Holiday Bowl.  It would have been like "Rose Bowl-lite" for us.

But . . . Iowa it is.

I like Iowa football.  Great blend of smash mouth and trickery on offense, unique, not your cookie cutter spread team.  Let’s see if they can stop USC’s offense.

I always wondered why teams don't go under center and QB sneak it on 1st down every once in a while.  It's got to be good for at least several yards when the D is not lined up for it.

Really good coaching job by Iowa.  You can tell they are not running the offense they want to run, but they are running the offense they need to run.

holiday bowl is year in, year out the best bowl.  they get great match ups. and san diego's jack murphy/quaalcomm stadium was my favorite place to play. fond memories.

and yes, you can root for iowa to win.  at least with sparty winning and if iowa wins the B10 looks like a credible conference.

and no, LT, you did not see me in '84.  i had graduated and was in northern cal when that game v. BYU happened.  what a joke that BYU was crowned the 'ncaa champion' beating bo's worst team of all time, the 6-6 1984 squad, and having played a JV schedule the rest of the year.

Very Well then.  I graduated in 1981.  You are right about BYU. By the way, their fans were  the most vile speaking, obscenity filled foul mouthed of all....shocking at the time. Lessons learned. Anyway it was a good time except for the game..but a lot of things changed shortly after. Heading up to Traverse City tomorrow. Will enjoy time in your neck of the woods. Hope the Avatar son gets his deer. Happy New Year!!

I watched that BYU game at Dooley's after finals before going home for Xmas break. OK's Barry Switzer said BYU played a “Bo-Diddley Tech” schedule LOL and 3rd string QB Scott Zurbrugg  on an unranked UM had us up double digits midway in the 4th before we collapsed. Agree that was a joke NC.

it is a good facility.  the field is (or at least was) well kept.  the dressing rooms were pretty nice, not huge, but not the pink iowa or the crazy purdue set ups.  easy access for players and fans.  and while i enjoy a game in the snow like any player or fan, the weather in S.D. is about 95% guarantee to be at least okay, if not very nice.

USC getting it done just on raw talent.  Almost not fair.

This feels so much like an old fashioned USC vs. Big Ten '70s/'80s Rose Bowl.

Discipline and execution vs. pure talent.

We won that game 10-3 you might recall. At home. With a +3 net turnover margin. I believe we were also out gained. So while Iowa was absolutely pathetic on offense in that game, is that really the example you want to use to prove a point that our offense is better? Because I’m not seeing it there.

How about the fact that prior to the bowl game Iowa topped 30 points three times all year, all in the first four games of the year, whereas Michigan topped 30 seven times?

You based your opinion on your girlish feelings while watching less than one half of a bowl game.  Sad.

No need for such weak morale.

USC is the SP+ #55 defense, lower ranked than Illinois.

Wolverines put up:

44 points on #12 defense
45 points on #26 defense
39 points on #46 defense
42 points on #52 defense

Also, even though we got blown out by anOSU (#2 defense), the Wolverines did (even through some really bad calls and bad luck) score more points on them than any other team this year.
