Bo Ryan Retiring
Wow, I didn't expect it.... will be interesting to see where the Badgers go from here.

I'm going out on a limb here; obviously I don't know.
But I'll bet if you polled the players you'd find they were all for this, that they'd greatly prefer Gard over taking their chances on whoever Alvarez would hire. It's a continuation of the system and the regime they were recruited into.

Ryan said he would have stepped away back in June had it not been for Gard’s father going through an illness. Glen Gard was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme, a type of brain cancer, in May and died on Oct. 30.
I knew Greg Gard had been a Ryan assistant forever, but this is still something I don't think I would have expected until the end of the season since Ryan said some time ago that this would be his last. Even if it was something he was simply itching to do, if you will, I do wonder why he did it now.

I know this crowd despises Bo Ryan, but give the man his due. He kept Badger men's basketball not only relevant, but borderline elite, since he took over. Stu Jackson and Dick Bennett righted the ship in the 90's and early 00's, but Ryan took the program to a new level. I think he's been the best B1G coach in recent years. The guy recruited perfectly for his system, found great developmental players, and sprinkled in a few elite NBA-type recruits.

I guess a lot of people hated the way his teams played.
Not me. They've been my favorite team to watch for the last decade, and more so as the years have gone by. It was basketball the way I was taught, first by my father and then my high school coaches. And it's a dying art. I'm going to miss it.
