Dammit, you beat me by half a second.
January 26th, 2012 at 9:16 AM ^
actually.
January 26th, 2012 at 9:20 AM ^
Don't have to be a dick about it.
January 26th, 2012 at 9:34 AM ^
/s friendly intentions only.
January 26th, 2012 at 9:40 AM ^
yeah I was being sarcastic too, but I feel sometimes putting a /s takes away from the joke.

Just as long as there is no more recruiting shenanigans for the Bobcats he can reset his career after the NYG stint. Can't wait to see the Zips reactions.
January 26th, 2012 at 9:18 AM ^
He has worked for Notre Dame, MSU and now OSU. He has completed the trifecta of working with our rivals.
January 26th, 2012 at 9:19 AM ^
Haha let's just hope the younger Sheriden doesn't do the same...thats true traitor-ish

Urban loves Michigan coaches. At Florida, it was GM and Lefty, and now Bill. I wonder why all the ex-uM ties?
January 26th, 2012 at 9:24 AM ^
It is probably cause Michigan is sweet?
Let's remember, Gary Moeller was a captain at OSU as well, which still shocks the hell out of me how someone could coach for their biggest rival.
January 26th, 2012 at 9:38 AM ^
Yeah, that was a big shock when I found out. Gary is so blue. One coach i can understand, but he had 3 or more on his staff at Florida, and now has one, if he got Lefty now, i would probably riot.
January 26th, 2012 at 9:24 AM ^
Even Urban can't deny great Michigan coaches. He just wants to win.
January 26th, 2012 at 9:33 AM ^
Michigan coaches know how to coach!!

At Florida, Urban hired Mattison, Loeffler, Vance Bedford, and Chuck Heater. Now he hires Sheridan. He seems to have a thing not just for former Michigan coaches, but for former Lloyd Carr assistants.
January 26th, 2012 at 12:20 PM ^
None of Lloyd's assistants were worth a damn....where did this Meyer guy learn about football?!?!
January 26th, 2012 at 4:36 PM ^
Ha!
Seriously though, I was kind of worried that Meyer would hire Loeffler as his offensive coordinator. But now that Loeffler is at Auburn, it's doubtful that he'll ever end up at Ohio. If he does as well at Auburn as he did at Temple, I would like to see Michigan hire him when Borges decides to move on or retire.

A lot of coaches have a lot of mutual respect for their rivals. It is a reason they are rivals. The reason OSU is a rival is because you have to respect their ability on the football field. They have been well coached over the years and put out a good product. ND too. MSU is more of a rival now because the product on the football field has been better. While some rival coaches may not like each other, they probably respect their staffs. And if they get along fine with the assistant and respect their ability to coach, it makes sense to move up in the coaching world in this way (ie going from schools closely associated with each other).
It works the same way in business, in lots of jobs competitors pouch from rival companies because they respect what they do. Urban Meyer is a mid-western guy and I would guess respects Michigan greatly. That is why he seems to have a lot of former Michigan coaches.
January 26th, 2012 at 12:16 PM ^
I agree with you about everything except ND. ND sucks and is worthy of about as much respect as Purdue.
January 26th, 2012 at 12:27 PM ^
Not as much about the past decade.
January 26th, 2012 at 4:27 PM ^
You mean past two decades.

Or does Urb look like a creeper in that photo?

I didn't play football, so I can't speak to this definitively. However, it has been my observation that the coaching "fraternity" is indeed a brotherhood. Good football (& basketball) coaching is praised, good team play is appreciated, regardless of the team. Dirty play, dirty recruiting, sloppy coaching, lazy play, is looked down on. Whether you played for a rival or not doesn't matter.
To cut to the chase, Sheridan's time at good schools reflects well on him. Sometimes, we can forget that Bo was part of Woody's staff at Ohio State. Or that Mattison was a coach at ND & Florida. Their resume doesn't mean they shouldn't be at Michigan.
You see this in the pros all the time when former college rivals become teammates. Conversely, we'll see a glimpse of this next week when former teammates Burke & Sullinger play against each other on the basketball court this Sunday for the first time in organized ball. Just a few months ago, Beilein and Michigan played against Bradley, where Beilein's son is on the staff.
The exception is when a head coach has so much success for so many years at one school that he becomes an icon who can't go somewhere else (Bo, Woody, JoPa, Bear Bryant, maybe Landry or Ditka in the pros.)
Suffice to say, I too wish Sheridan well, except when Ohio is playing Michigan.

I agree coaches get recycled. It just strikes me that at florida, Urban had 3 or more ex michigan coaches. And at Ohio, he has one now, sure they coached elsewhere, but these guys got their start here or made their reputations here. I just find that really weird. Probably nothing.
January 26th, 2012 at 10:06 AM ^
When I saw the headline I thought it was the other team we call Ohio. I thought "Yes!! He'll bring them down from the inside." He was just terrible in his '09 stint as Giants DC. He was to them as Gerg was to UM. I'm sorry he's going to the real Ohio.
January 26th, 2012 at 10:43 AM ^
The link clearly mentions Urban Meyer and OSU not Ohio
January 26th, 2012 at 11:24 AM ^
My Bad. I thought I saw someone mention Bobcats somewhere. I'm a little dizzy today.
