Big 10 Week One
Wisco -19.5 at Wisco
shocking line, to be honest
I'm taking Wisco, straight up
Wisco at Wisco? ORLY?
on the Mich-Uconn game. I know Michigan will score at least 54 so it shouldn't matter.
I would take the under. Our defense is going to come out and make a statement like opening game last year but against a more talented team.
Wisconsin is @ UNLV, not @ Wisco
NW should kill Vandy. I would have thought the line would be at least -7, especially with a new HC.
For fun, here are my picks.
Minny +4 at MTSU.... - I would take Minny
OSU -29 vs Marshall - Hate to say it, but would prob go with OSU
MSU -21 vs WMU - Go with WMU - not just b/c I don't like Li'l bro, but because they are not winning by 21.
Wisco -19.5 at Wisco - Hmmmmm. This is a tough one. Wisco's offense is pretty solid, but Wisco's D may be able to stop them.
NW -2.5 at Vandy....NW - this is prob the pick I am most confident in.
UM -3 vs UConn - Go with the good guys on this. Partially b/c I have never (and will never) place a bet against M, but also because I think that this team is going to surprise a lot of people.
PU +10 at ND..... ND. Will be able to score in bunches.
Illini +13.5 vs Missou....I would take Missou so long as the spread stays under 20. Illini = not so good
MSU beat WMU by 35 last season in EL. I wouldn't put any money on the game myself, but I think MSU has a pretty good shot at covering.
The only definite loss is Illinois. They're wretched. The Big 10 should win/have a good shot at the rest of them
Love LSU and Oregon State.
Rodgers brothers will keep it close for the Beavers and LSU's D will be too much for Yates and UNC.
My one caveat is that OSU always gets off to slow starts, otherwise I think they're solid.
VERY important to keep the Beavers close.
I'd go with Marshall +29 I think. Opening day? The kind of game that OSU typically wins ugly.
NW vs Vandy? Give 2 points.
I like Minny over MTSU too.
One slight difference this year is that the OSU-Marshall game is on Thursday night instead of a noon Saturday start. There will be plenty of time for the Buckeye faithful to get liquored up and the players to wake up.
Also, don't forget that St. Tress will be sure to pull out all the stops to ensure that his team covers the spread ala last season's game against New Mexico St.
I'm going with: Minny +4, NW -2.5, UM -3, PU +10, Oregon St +13, LSU -1.5, Cincy -1.5. Nothing beats college football and betting!
I like the Over in the U of M / UConn game. Foolishly optimistic? Possibly. Hopefully, MIchigan will have 45 points of the 53.5.
I like the over too. I think that both teams could break 30, although as I think about it more, I'm liking our offense more and theirs less.
I will eat your shirt the day I see a "Missou" shirt in Missouri. It is Mizzou.
That being said:
1) Is Western that bad this year? 21 point dogs to State? That seems like a lot.
2) I'd take ND -10 over Purdon't - Weis is gone, they still have Floyd. They are at home. Fans/players pumped up for BK era.
3) I like our odds to cover that spread. The only reason I can ever see us losing to UConn is the fact they have more upperclassmen than we do. (our glaring hole right now - defensive secondary - is also a glaring hole for UConn)
against ND.
this elicits a neg? 'Zat mean some people dislike PSU more than ND? Or maybe people want an unbeaten ND in Game Two? Or to believe we will prevail against PSU later?
Okay, never mind.
I'd take Northwestern, Purdue, Oregon State, and Boise State. The others... not so sure.
I'll take UNLV and the points, thank you very much. Interesting that Wisco is playing at UNLV again after playing there in 2007 without a game being played in Madison.
I'm a little surprised that Boise State is the favorite against Va Tech in D.C., I suspect that line will move to a pick 'em by kickoff.
I'd think about jumping on that over/under of 53.5. Gotta go over. I was brainstorming it earlier and guessed it would be like 57 or so.
Vandy is pretty terrible, but, the game being on the road for Northwestern, anything can happen. Hopefully Minnesota doesn't give the conference a horrible loss to start the season.
As far as some of the non-Big Ten ones...definitely LSU and Virginia Tech IME.
I think they can cover the 6.5. Here's a decent preview from CFN.

I'll always cheer for the Middies when they play ND!
Carolina basically returns their entire D which was great last year against an LSU team that had trouble scoring points last fall. I didn't realize they were opening against LSU this year. Carolina also has a ton of alums in the Atlanta area. This should be a good game for a Carolina fan. I would definitely take the points on this one....
