Best year since...

This year has been incredible.  Let's not let what happened tonight ruin what this team has accomplished.  2-4, fire Harbaugh, 'Hire Campbell' fanbase....all to find out Ward tuned out the noise and kept Jim HC and negotiated his pay to get better coordinators.

Result?

Beats one of the most talented Ohio State offenses in recent history.

Wins the BIG ten championship CONVINCINGLY.

Makes the CFP for the first time.

Now let ask, who predicted ANY of this after last season?  <1%?

Let's enjoy it.

This was a great year. Michigan had a better year than every team but for Georgia and Alabama.

Having said that, I hope this loss isn’t too demoralizing for the program. When Michigan State lost to Alabama 38-0 in the playoff, that loss demoralized their program significantly and they never got anywhere near that level again under Dantonio. It’s probably a bit depressing to have such a special year and then get absolutely crushed by an elite team.

The problem is recruiting.  The optics of this may be quite bad for a group of high school seniors.  Especially considering how many times it seems we are in recruiting battles with the very team that just jail sexed us and rubbed their bloody dick across our face.

I disagree.  At least Michigan is in the conversation.  Imagine recruiting against Ohio State a year ago vs. now.  Sure we haven’t beat them since your parents were in school, but come here anyway vs we put it on them and we go to the playoffs.

Much better place now.

That loss demoralized them or they lost literally every good player on their team and replaced them with 2 and 3 star players who WEREN’T hidden gems? Michigan is upgrading on talent at nearly every position except DE. It’ll take time to acclimate the talent but we don’t play a difficult schedule next year. This isn’t the culmination of years of roster building like that msu team or this year’s Cincinnati. This was an out of nowhere team who is getting better, not rebuilding after missing their championship window

UM managed to score and had some very uncharacteristic turnovers that cost them more points and an opportunity to be in the game.  I think the team knows they could have competed better, so I expect this is more fuel for the fire rather than a setback that takes the wind out of their sails.

Learn from it, build in it, and move forward.

Agreed, a few things different and the score is closer but I have no illusions we win this game.

Gray not freezing cost 7points in otherwise good coverage for a pass to easily defend….

Baldwin quit on a route that imo should have been TD..  he quit, gave up points and gave up the ball.

Also going for it on 4th in the redzone 4th and 4 and Gattis calls that jet sweep behind the los that got ate up.. if you’re going to call that just kick the fg and make the points look better.  But throw the ball into the end zone…. Give All or Schoonemaker a shot at it..  Not to mention you have Edwards/Corum who were really good out of the backfield as rec’s..  I digress, give them something..  in the end zone!  Some bad plays let that score get out of hand.

Best year since 1997 for me as well. We seemed destined to do a repeat but it wasn't meant to be this season.

It was a hell of a comeback despite this big loss against Georgia. Blake Corum has said, we'll be back and I trust he'll do that and he'll be a great team leader. Experience will be the best teacher for this group of young men.

To answer the OP’s question…1997. Is there even a close #2? I’ve been following UM since the early 90’s and in my lifetime this and 97 are the best years and it’s not even close.

We came up short this season so 1997 is it for me. This is no excuse but one of my concerns prior to this game was how would the long near 4 week layoff affect this team? This team was so hot after thumping Iowa and at that time, they were capable of beat Georgia and or Alabama.

Again, no excuses. This game was a nightmare and a bad dream that we couldn't wake up from. They'll regroup in 2022 and win one week at a time and we'll all see where the chips will fall.

1997.

And my god has the game changed since then.

The speed and power of the modern game is different. 2021 Michigan would have completely outmaneuvered 1997 Michigan. I would watch a ‘97 Michigan v ‘97 Nebraska game…

The ‘21 Georgia team would have obliterated ‘97 Michigan, ‘97 Nebraska, ‘97 Tennessee or ‘97 Washington State.

’21 Georgia did pretty well against today’s Michigan…dammit…
