Ben Herbert appreciation thread

I don't know if Ben is considered the best in the business, but he should be. I honestly think one reason this team looks and plays like it does is because of his hard work.

So no insiders info or anything really news worthy with this post, I just thought the guy deserves some praise. Go Blue!

Yeah, I totally get it, and I've used the same joke myself in other circumstances. Saying "you're a jerk" to a friend can be be nice, even sweet.

But joking about firing somebody, even in love and respect, still feels funny to me. I don't mean to argue about it or insist others stop doing it. I'm just explaining why it feels awkward to me.

Imagine if you came to work and every morning your boss, as a joking way to praise your work, yells "Fire Clarence!"

Maybe CO State just not used to that kind of heat, but several CSU player def looked gassed/cramps while all the UM players looked fresh even against uptempo (hard to compare, as the CSU offense wasn't on the field very long!)

You can tell a lot about Herbert from watching his interviews.  The man is intense and locked in.  And he is organized, with a big staff and action plans for everyone on the team.

It does feel like Michigan under Herbert has tended to get the absolute most out of guys who are willing to work, at least in a physical sense. As we see with schools that recruit as well or better than us, that's not something to take for granted. Even just within the B1G, Penn State and Ohio State seem to whiff (or just get uninspiring results) more often on highly rated guys than we do. All of the coaches deserve credit for that, but Herbert too often goes unsung. Cheers to him

Blake… “players willing to work” - IMO, is the key phrase.  I don’t know how great of a difference the “attitude and effort” over the last two years - as illustrated by Aidan Hutchinson - and others - has manifested in their performance.  But, I think attitude and effort can go a long way.

It wouldn’t surprise me if there’s a sense of entitlement in the locker rooms of several teams in the conference and country.

There's no doubt, the team changed for the much better, not just the better, but the much better, after he was hired.

In a profession where too many guys are focused on hipster facial hair, performative faux drill sergeant ranting for any camera they can find, and shmedium golf shirts, UM is so fortunate to have Ben Herbert, who does nothing but develop young men into athletic freaks.  Abigail deserves a massive amount of credit for running an elite fueling program in that Freak Factory as well.

Did you see the before and after pics of Mazi's physique during Saturday's game?

He's a Maize and Blue Hulk.

That is partly due to coach Herbert's training program.
