Bears drop Chester Taylor
Whats the opinion of the board??
I would like for the Lions to go after Taylor. He would be a great 1, 2 punch with Best. He runs with power, picks up the blitz well, and is great catching the ball out of the backfield, not to mention has been good in Special teams. Seems to be a no brainer with us needing some help there.

He has been a solid back in the NFL, but how old is he? I would be afraid he is a little passed his prime. Especially considering the lifespan of most NFL running back careers.

He may be old, passed his prime etc, BUT is he better than what the Lions have past Jahvid Best (i.e. Maurice Morris and that Harrison guy). I'd say yes though I keep hearing about the Packers considering dropping Grant.
Jahvid Best had two concussions late in college and just picked up another one in the last preseason game. That guy probably isn't going to last long in the NFL.

Packers aren't dropping Grant. He agreed to cut $1 million off his contract in exchange for guaranteeing the balance of around $2.5 million against both injury or performance based cuts.

I think he is a little older but ideally we only need him for one year.
August 29th, 2011 at 2:24 PM ^
spent $7M on him last year for one year of meh service. You don't want Bear castoffs.
August 29th, 2011 at 2:30 PM ^
Why not? At least we know he would be very motivated twice this year. Also, he would come cheap.
August 29th, 2011 at 2:26 PM ^
greatest toledo running back. Thats my opinion. Will never forget him running all over cincy in the silverdome his senior year.

He made very little impact for the Bears last year when subbing in for Forte and with the Bears signing of Barber it was figured if Barber had a stronger preseason that this could happen. This wasn't a surprise move. Not sure what type of gas he still has in the tank at this point.

As a Bears fan - see ya...

Kind of a Roy Williams situation with the Bears. We bring him in really cheap and give him a chance to find his ah hum . . . third wind. Doesnt work thwn let him go! I think he's got to be a better option than Ian Johnson, and Bell.
Best, Taylor, Brown in our backfield not too bad.
August 29th, 2011 at 2:42 PM ^
Bell just got cut.
August 29th, 2011 at 2:42 PM ^
didn't he have a pretty big contract? could this be more of a cap move? seems like they could of atleast gotten a pick for him if he was somewhat cheap?
although just read on Prideofdetroit: UPDATE: Despite Bears head coach Lovie Smith telling Taylor he was released this morning, the team just called his agent to tell him that Taylor hasn't been released. Odd.
maybe they got a bite for a trade?
August 29th, 2011 at 2:43 PM ^
sign him IFF the price/terms are right.
August 29th, 2011 at 2:47 PM ^
Word is he hasnt been released yet

That guy has been a lion killer......I wouldnt mind having him.....Havent been real impressed with harrison, or any of the others...except felton, that guy is a beast....who cares...Five more wakeups!!!!

This is OT

No matter how you were modded, you are correct.

You have to believe the Lions are waiting to pounce on the best RB waived in the league's final round of cuts. The two backs they've brought in so far have "stopgap" written all over them. A couple solid RBs are bound to get cut in the next week or so -- always happens, usually with older backs. The Lions are in good position to pick-up a good one-year rental.

that it is mis-information. His agent is saying he hasn't been released.
August 29th, 2011 at 3:23 PM ^
someone needs to tell Jerry Angelo to make up his mind.
August 29th, 2011 at 3:31 PM ^
I wonder if Chester would be better than Jerome Harrison. Harrison looked very good on Saturday.
August 29th, 2011 at 3:59 PM ^
Every time Harrison gets a chance he does well. I don't understand why his coaches seem to hate him.
August 29th, 2011 at 4:03 PM ^
Bears have learned that Marion Barber is ailing- Taylor is uncut haha
August 29th, 2011 at 4:30 PM ^
Is Best a "punch" at all?
August 29th, 2011 at 4:53 PM ^
He has not been cut. There was a misunderstanding between him and Lovie. He had assumed he was cut after not playing the other night. He had a meeting with Lovie this morning where he was informed he had not been cut you. Lovie would not comment if he would remain a member of the bears after they make some cuts on Wed or Thurs.
August 29th, 2011 at 8:47 PM ^
If the bears can't unload him for a pick by the end of the week.
