Baskeball NIT picking...

New selection format for postseason NIT this coming season...

Smaller conference champs who don't make the big dance will no longer auto qualify; instead, the top two NET ranked teams from the Power 5, plus Big East conference, will be guaranteed an NIT spot - regardless of record - and at least one home game (if available).

If this was in place last year, the 16-19 Ohio State Buckeyes (finished 13th in conference play) would have received an automatic bid to (and a guaranteed home game in) the NIT.

Ugh.  Under .500 teams (and at the expense of someone who actually did win their conference)?  Who is going to be excited to show up for that home game anyway?

I don't like this at all.

Let's make smaller conference teams SMALLER.  Give me a break.   NIT is/has been irrelevant.  Give these programs chance to compete in postseason-  at least NIT is much more meaningful for smaller programs than some Power 5 losers that couldn't make the big dance and don't want to be there in the first place.  Fuck off NCAA.

Unfortunately we’ll probably end up in the NIT. But we shouldn’t be posting about it. Michigan has higher expectations than this. We’re not little brother.

This is stupid, why should they not automatically qualify? A lot of shit Power 5 teams are still aren't much better, if they even are better, than those smaller schools.

Whatever - if we're upset about getting screwed by the NIT, then i probably was just spared of a few hours of less than compelling basketball because I'd definitely watch if we get in.
