Baseball Coaching Search

Baseball America has a long story up about the search:

https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/michigan-baseball-coaching-search-job-profile-and-candidates/

I’m pretty sure it’s paywalled, but here are the highlights:

- Michigan’s programs and facilities are very enticing, especially if they start with the salary Bakich received this year. The story says >$600,000.

- Candidates include:

— Chris Fetter (former Michigan, current Tiger, pitching coach)

— Michael Brdar (former Michigan, current Padre, assistant coach)

— Jim Penders  (UConn Coach)

— Jordan Bischel (CMU coach)

— Rob Vaughn (Maryland coach - reminder Bakich was the Terp head coach before coming to Michigan)

— Eric Snider (Louisville assistant coach - also spent 16 years at Illinois previously)

Exactly, but he's 1 hour from Ann arbor and didn't even consider um.

That is the difference between um and Clemson in baseball.

That is why bakich left.

Didn't think that I had to spell out the obvious part. Thx though..

Edit: it's amazing that um got Schubart and may have a chance to actually see him make it to campus. pace too. There is some good baseball in michigan. If they can actually get purify on campus, it's another big win.

Those recruits would be my biggest case for Schnabel.. they are all pro players..

Recruiting in any sport is for the most part regional. There is not much use in bringing in someone who has only worked the south or the west. The west especially is a very different style of play in baseball.

Look at bakich classes or the current roster. It fits the old saying about Recruiting within a couple hours of your campus that we always talk about with football. About half are regional.

I get the fetter love.

But as someone who has dealt with recruiting in the program, not internally, but have seen players recruited.. My list would be bischel and Schnabel as 1a and 1b in some order. This is not to say fetter isn't a great candidate. But he already has a top tier job. I don't consider him to be realistic.

As far as someone from the pac or sec, unless it's a vandy assistant, bringing in someone who has never recruited the Midwest, or a high academic school would be tying one hand behind your back from day one.

They should have gone after Nick Schnabel right away or at the very least, made him a top candidate even when he showed interest in Clemson. He helped build this program with Bakich over the last decade.

New Padres hitting coach Michael Brdar is young, yet brings experience to role - The San Diego Union-Tribune (sandiegouniontribune.com)

Pretty sure that's not paywall.

Watch Padres almost daily and honestly didn't realize he was hitting coach.  Head coach and every other coach change this year, same as nearly every year.  Padres keeping pace with LA.  Middle of the pack for Team BA in all MLB, which is an improvement.  #9 in Team OBP which is major improvement and what I figure a hitting coach has more to do with.  Lead-off guy top 10 in walks.  Cronenworth #2 started little slow at plate but has been coming on strong lately.  Doesn't matter cause Jake's a stud who does something or more every game to help get the W and I would rate him #2 as team MVP behind Machado.

As someone who knew Bobby pretty well at UofM, would love to see him part of the program—either as HC or part of staff.  He has infectious personality and was beloved throughout his run in pro ball.

Just lost some big pieces to the portal as well.  Obertop and Bertram are gone,  along with 3 others.  Obertop is likely to get drafted high enough to go pro anyways, I don’t think the same can be said for Bertram.  And with that, Bertram followed Bakich to Clemson.  Do not be surprised is Obertop does the same if he's not drafted high enough.

For those who don’t follow baseball closely, the 2019 run may have never happened without Bertram.  He started zero games until the Corvallis regional when Jack Blomgren went down with an injury, he stepped in and went 4 for 4 in his first start and hit .500 in the regional.

Don’t overthink this . Go get Bischel —-he has won and won big everywhere he has went. Owned the MAC the last few years and have had some nice wins /battles in CWS.

Another vote for Jordan Bischel.  Oh, and BTW, Willie Weiss just announced he’s off to Clemson to join Bakich. Maybe Bischel would bring some Chippewas with him.
