Barnhart To The NFL After The Season

Submitted by MaizeBlueA2 on December 30th, 2023 at 4:13 PM

“I’m going on to the NFL,” Barnhart said, confirming he already has a place to work out down in Florida once the Michigan season ends, either after the Jan. 1 Rose Bowl or the National Championship Game in Houston Jan. 8. “I thought about it before the season even started. I think that’s probably the best thing for me.”

Let's win two more and send him out as a national champion!!

We will see what Nugent and Jones decide, but with Hinton coming back, going into the spring we are looking at:

LT: Hinton

LG: El-Hadi

C: Nugent (or Crippen, if Nugent leaves)

RG: Gentry vs. Priebe

RT: Jones (or Gentry or Persi, if Jones leaves)

That's a very solid group going into the spring, and we build from there. Plenty of young guys to battle and push these guys.

In that sense, none of them are walking into the locker room as a starter. Harbaugh and/or Moore are going to make those guys earn every bit of their starting jobs.

If we’re not going to presume an all-conference guard is a starter in spring, what have any of the others done to earn a presumed starting spot?

Win the game.  Then win out for Zak, Karsen, Blake, all Michigan seniors, Michigan nation, and America since Michigan is now America's team.  Go Blue!  Good luck always Karsen.

Good luck to him, but it seems like this season exposed a number of deficiencies in his play that he may want another year to improve.

You are sort of what you are at this age athletically.  He has had an amazing S&C staff to work with - the quick twitch to deal with NFL DEs is not going to fall from the heavens to him with another year.  Hopefully he can stand up as a pro guard and make some (moar) money for his family.

I’m going to throw this out there as a hypothetical lineup just for fun. Assumptions:

1. left tackle is the best combination of feet and length to protect the QBs blind side.

2. five best players start

LT: Persi or Gentry

LG: Priebe

C: Nugent

RG: Trente

RT: Hinton

Hinton started this season at RT. I’m not sold on his pass protection footwork, but as a run blocker I’ve seen him destroy guys. Like, put them on a sled and go.

Trente is one of the best 5, if he returns, but he seems miscast as a tackle. His pass protection against outside speed rushers is not elite. But the guy is 6’4”, 325, and can also just cave in a side of a defensive line. I’d like to see him next to Hinton and just let those two guys go to work.

There’s a trend of Hinton playing his best ball (really good ball) at LT, going back to his Stanford days.

Trente seems fine at RT, but could be elite at RG.

There’s no way in hell El Hadi isn’t a starter next year. He was probably one of our best five THIS year.

Gentry was a RT prospect who was being buzzed about as a guard until he got back in tip-top shape and improved his movement skills. That’s not who you want to play at LT.

Lots of talk regarding next year's line. I'm new and can't figure out how to attach screenshots. Nonetheless, I attached a link to an interview from Harbaugh's office last month. He literally has the depth chart stuck to his wall. Granted bodies may move around depending the situation ie. the Zinter injury.

Its much different than what we've heard or seen from "experts," Ourlads, forums, or even the product on the field.

Persi #2 Right Guard???
