Article from ESPN's Rittenberg - Michigan defensive front sees need for speed.

Good article from Rittenberg about the defense. I was excited about the defense before reading this, and hearing from the players confirms that excitement even more. Here's a great line from Van Bergen talking about Roh: "I asked him before the game if he was ready, and he gave me the coldest look I’ve ever seen," Van Bergen said. "He proved to everybody that he’s ready to play this game as a freshman." I love the confidence this team has. http://espn.go.com/blog/bigten/post/_/id/3414/michigan-defensive-front-…

very exciting to think of what this team will be capable of if the coaching system stays intact. I like GERG and think if he stays for a few years we could have a pretty dominating defense.

like GERG. I'm trying to contain my excitement just a little bit since we've only played one game so far, but it's been a long time since I've seen a Michigan defense get after the ball like they did against WMU. They were flying all over the field and making great tackles. If they can keep getting better every week, this defense is gonna be special.

I noticed the increased speed as well. I told a friend that I had seen Michigan look great in the past, I'd seen them look huge in the past, I'd seen them look strong in the past...but I had never seen them look fast. You've got a whole squad of burners now.

I have to say I was always happy with the signing of GERG, and after seeing his D last week that excited jumped exponentially. I am trying to contain my excitement as well but I was thoroughly impressed with the D's showing last week. \ I saw only one missed tackle that was immediately whiped out by one of the four other guys hustling to the ball. If they can stay healthy I think we could surprise many people this season. Also, how sharp did GERG look in that maize shirt he was wearing? No homo or anything, but dude looked sharp and has great hair!

this is one of the biggest changes from past teams. These guys are fast. And not just our skilled players. Linebackers, and Lineman are fast. They are not only fast, they are big and strong as well. I think this is where teams like OSU, Penn State and Michigan have fallen short over the past few years to the USCs, Texas, Florida etc. Speed in the trenches. Obviously we beat Florida a couple years back, but overall recently the trend is not favorable to the Big Ten teams. Tackling also looked loads better than past years. At least from my initial viewing of the game.

in agreement! I can't count the number of times of being frustrated with the speed that USC, Texas, Florida, etc has had in recent years. Hopefully this year will spark many more years of speed in MIchigan and dominate the B10

Funny. Last year, the defense was predicted to take the pressure off the offense, but didn't. This year, the offense was predicted by many to take the pressure off the defense, but the defense is showing signs of becoming dominant a little bit before the offense does. This could turn out to be even a better year than I, with my extremely maize and blue-colored glasses, expected. I was very happy with the offensive developments Saturday, but seeing the defense play the way it did, even while getting the depth chart some valuable experience in the second half, was a great surprise.
