Any plans for Yost to be updated / expanded?
I noticed on today's update that ND is planning a rink modeled after Yost. Got me thinking about Yost and any perceived need to update or expand seating. Seems to me additional seats could be sold to increase income from this program? Any thoughts on expansion or the need for a refresh?

The most recent renovations were in 2001 which added the balcony seating above the student sections on the East side of the stadium. To be perfectly honest I don't know how or where they would cram in any additional seats.

The new 'away team' locker room was added after the balcony. Sorry for picking nits. I agree with you though, there really isn't room for more seats in Yost and I don't see the need to add more seats. Don't mess with perfection.

I have heard they are replacing all the West and East Bleachers this summer. It isn't changing the layout just updating the old wood bleachers. They can't do anything to exterior to add on or anything because it is a historic building.

They are building a new area for the band. It's supposed to be bigger than the corner they have now, I've heard about twice as big, but I think that might be a little ridiculous. I have no idea how/where they are making it, but it would free up 50-70 (the band is about 75, but they don't all have seats, they just cram in as best they can) seats for other fans, in the area they are now.

The last Yost expansion was in the hockey boom of the late 90's. I don't see hockey regaining the popular momentum that propelled the NCAA to expand the hockey tourney and more schools to start playing D-I. As much as we say "OMG, we rock at being hockey fans and could sell out 30k tickets for every game", that's just not reality. We do quite well selling out our moderate to little rink, will continue to modernize it to make facilities as good as possible while not ruining home ice advantage, but I think the days of Yost expansion or replacement are far far away.

Yost wasn't expanded then; its capacity was actually reduced. It's gone from having about 8,000 seats when it (re)opened in the 1970s to 7,200 in the early 1990s to the current 6,637.

The only thing I would like to see is an updated video screen at center ice. That is the only thing Munn has on Yost. It doesn't even have to be high def. I would like to see something better than the lite brite screen we have now.
