Any Mike Morris Status Updates

Submitted by 1of12MattDamons on December 4th, 2022 at 3:26 AM

If this has been addressed let me know so I can accept a negbang, but is there any word on Mike Morris? I was glad he didn't play because I wanted to rest as many dudes as possible. Is our d lineman of the year expected to be back for the playoffs?

The lack of pass rush without him has proven just how valuable he is to the defense. Any details? Sorry not sorry if already discussed.

How can you bring up Morris when the news of Cade transferring (again) is breaking?

We’ll have plenty of time to discuss him once the shock of our captain leaving (again) wears off.

I would like to hijack this thread to change the question to something more pragmatic:

Since we now have four weeks until the next game, who can realistically expect to get back into the rotations?

Morris maybe (hopefully - since we don't know the details), but is there anyone else that has a good chance?

Who else is even out that is not season ending?

Trente Jones?  (He may have played vs. Purdue? Fox announced him as a starter but I only noticed Barnhart at RT)

Corum's status is a mystery but sounds like he's out for the year.  NHG, All, and Kolesar, are all out for the season too I believe.

In terms of rotation changes, we're more likely to see younger players earn a few more snaps and/or make more of an impact. Okie falls in this category too as a guy who transferred in just prior to the season and has been deployed primarily as a pass rush specialist.  Emphasis on earn, because when you're 13-0 and in the CFP the focus is not getting your freshman more snaps like it may be in the (what bowl is MSU going to? [checks notes] Oh, right.) Guaranteed Rate Bowl.

Trente Jones has been back for a few weeks now. Barnhart has just maintained the starting job.

But yeah other than that it seems like all of our other injuries (outside of Morris) are of the season-ending variety. Corum maybe has a slim chance of being back by the semis or national title but I wouldn’t hold my breath and the likelihood of him needing to shake off some rust before being full-go. And Edwards is proving more than capable, even with one hand.

Other than that it’s just guys who have continued to play despite injuries healing up.

“Hi, I have nothing to contribute, but I’m curious about an injury situation, so I’m going to create a board post, even though Harbaugh doesn’t give out injury information, so at best I’m going to get an unsourced rumor that may have no basis in fact.  Meanwhile, I’m going to take up one of the three non-snowflake Message Board links available on the main page.”

I believe he played a snap or two against OSU so I’m assuming setting against Purdue was just precautionary. Minus Blake, we should be full strength against TCU, sorry buckeye lurkers, you aren’t gonna be 3. Given the ass beating you took, you shouldn’t even be 4.

Pretty clearly got his ankle rolled up on late versus Nebraska.  Reasonable to think it’s an ankle sprain that needs more rest to fully heal.  Played a few snaps versus OSU but didn’t seem at all healthy.  Should be fine in 4 weeks.

I agree, but with NIL that gets a little weird. These players are getting paid for their performance now.

Corum took more snaps than I would’ve liked early in the season, but is he in the Heisman race if he doesn’t? How much is winning a Heisman at Michigan worth..? If you’re looking out for the best interests of your players, you gotta let the pad their stats a little now.

I know this is nothing definitive but I was at the game last night and stayed until all the players went back through the tunnel. Morris was clearly still limping. Also, Okie and Colson both were limping pretty severely after the game as well. Everyone else seemed fine from my eye test.

I don't know, but it sure would be nice to get back our:

  • First-Team All Big Ten Ameche-Dayne Running Back of the Year, and
  • First-Team All Big Ten Smith-Brown Defensive Lineman of the Year.

Crazy how we stomped Ohio State at the shoe without our best offensive player and best defensive player.

Fox’s sideline reporter confirmed that Blake’s injury and surgery were for the meniscus. Any Mgodoctors know if that means there’s any chance he could be back by the championship, should they make it there?

Yeah, I noticed that. I guess we can take that as the confirmed injury given journalistic standards, etc. (not just a random message board post). I know after each of my meniscus surgeries, I was walking without a crutch in a few days, but how long before high-level athletic performance? Most of what I see out there is 4-6 weeks minimum as typical. We'll see. I think there is a chance but by no means guaranteed or even likely.

(Will also add caveat that I am the wrong kind of doc, too.)

During the first half I had the same thought about missing his ability to consistently take those extra yards. Michigan was having trouble extending those long grinding drives that has been its trademark. Those extra yards might have changed that.

Of course, that's not to take anything away from Donovan. He's abilities seem to be just as great. Just different.

For "most people" I'd say the answer is no and it would be a minimum of 6 weeks for even the most straight forward partial meniscectomy. Meniscal repair? No. Done for a few months.

For a small, free edge or parrot beak tear it is potentially do-able but then it comes down to more of a "can vs should" scenario. A 33 year old getting back to play in the super bowl or a 20 year old with potentially a whole career in front of him might weigh different considerations if given an option.

A lot of bruises, sprains, etc.

I highly doubt several guys do anything expect rehab for a couple of weeks.

That still gives them a week to ramp back up and then a traditional game week of practice.

This break couldn't come at a better time and normally I think teams manage rust with a month off, for Michigan I think they need every day.

For JJ, he can finally slow things down, assess the good and the bad, work on timing with his WRs, really use this month to become a better QB.

At RB, Corum is probably out, but Edwards has the cast.

WR, Anthony hasn't been right all year, for Michigan to win a national championship...it might be a guy like Anthony that seemingly comes out of "nowhere." Assuming he's healthy, he's a guy that could spend the next 4 weeks working with JJ, working on timing, rhythm, etc. while Bell, Johnson, and Wilson heal up. Anthony is might sneaky breakout offensive player of the CFP.

TE: All will be out but Schoon will use the time to get back to 100% and Loveland can recover after a month of "big boy football."

OL: Every OL in the country is hurt right now, this is more about 2023. Persi, El-Hadi, Crippen...you all have a couple of weeks to run with the 1s.  Keegan, Zinter, and Jones can get back to 100%.

The you have the D, which rotates so I won't go by position but Morris was out, Green has been working back from the wrong end of a felony assault, NHG - someone needs to ask Harbaugh about him because he's my defensive sleeper. He can play and keep his redshirt. This needs to be a presser question - make him answer directly (but the ridiculous media will ask 15 questions about Corum's health and get the same answer).

Will Johnson is CB #2, like McCarthy on offense, a great time for him to slow things down and use this window as an opportunity to get better. Will Johnson looks like Sauce Gardner out there, he's got a shot to be something Michigan has never had...a lanky shutdown CB, notches above Clark, Stribling, Gray, etc. - old Don Brown's mustache must love watching that kid play. Loveland, Graham and Johnson all look like future first round picks. Scary.

I’d be Shocked if he isn’t back. Think it’s a high ankle sprain. Another thing you have to remember is the 2 teams we played without him are OSU (has amazing pass blocking TE) and Purdue (quick pass offense).
