The Announcers

Submitted by Evil Monkey on

I know one of them was Jay Bilas, I did not catch the name of the other one. Anyway, I thought the announcing tonight was absolutely awful. Which ever team scored, became the "best team in the Nation." That's annoying on it's own, but to add on to it, they would not give credit to where credit was due. I recall several times where Morgan was playing tough, "Big Ten D," and stopped Sullinger from scoring. But everytime, it was a foul according to Bilas. Adding on to my last point, they thought anything close to a foul, should've ben called. Example, Sullinger had a nice move around Morgan to score, and Bilas thought Sullinger should have been called for the foul. Then when Burke/Morgan blocked Craft at the end. Bilas said "thats Big Ten basketball right there," kind of contradicting himself. It was not a foul, but the fact that Bilas wanted everything called, was not "Big Ten basketball." I dont know, maybe I'm over exaggerating, but it was nearly impossible to listen to, and I find it very hard to watch, while the TV is muted. Just thought I would state my opinion. Anyway, they don't matter because Michigan played a hell of game. I'm pumped for the both tourneys and I pray that Michigan wins out though. It will be tough but wouldn't that be something?

I found myself agreeing with a few of Bilas' thoughts on the flopping that our guys were doing... but he was also quick to note when Ohio players got away with travels and fouls as well... and come on, he joked how he "committed" when he walked onto the Michigan Stadium football field, saying that it was "really neat" and he also seemed to really dig Denard, calling him "a great quarterback" and "a great kid" and talking about how fun he was on Gameday... point being, he didn't have it in for us as much as this thread is trying to suggest...

I am going to have to disagree, Bilas is one of the greatest basketball minds out there.  I prefer him calling a game over anyone.  Even if he is a Blue Devil, I think he calls the game the way the rules are written.

Did you watch the same game? He was constantly making snide comments to the point that it was annoying as hell. I'm pretty sure I yelled at the tv for him to shut the hell up way more than I complained about bad calls/turnovers/shots.

I really hate Bilas, especially since Amaker got fired.  Bitching about fouls every second. Its really obvious he rarely watches/calls big ten games because big ten officials allows for physical play and call things looser.

He was suffocating and insufferable.  Plese Jay Bilas just let the game breathe.  I don't think I have ever heard an announcer so fanatically re-officiate every single play in an entire game.  I'm not even complaining that it was one-sided, just over and over every play either way.  I couldn't take it - my wife started yelling at me to stop complaining about Bilas, but it was unbearable.

I just checked out RCMB's open thread for the game and they all wanted us to lose and were genuinely pissed pretty much the whole time. This is textbook WTF behavior from them, we just gave them the sole lead in the big ten. I just don't get it

Bilas was balanced.  To be honest, the play where Craft went up for a layup at the end and the shot got blocked, I thought that was a blatant foul.  Then I saw the replay, and while I still thought it was a foul, this kind of thing happens to Burke all the time and is a no call.  And Michigan was flopping at times, but their good positioning led to five charges, and looking at the results of those plays (made baskets) it made a huge difference.

Jesus You guys need to get over your insecurities here. I thought Bilas was pretty even-handed and displayed no bias at all. Because he mouthed off about Beilein 4 years ago, people are just going to assume he hates us. In my opinion, short of Dakich, he's the best analyst in college basketball.

It's never good when they have ACC announcers go outside the ACC.  The ACCis where they play the best basketball, just ask them.  It could have been worse...Dookie V.  But, I would have very much preferred they brought Dan Dakich.

I really don't dislike Jim Jackson, but I don't think I'd want to hear him do an Ohio game.  On the radio, he's more of a fan of the B10 than a homer.  I don't get to see him on TV much.

Jay Bilas was in serious jeopardy of entering intolerable douchebag territory currently inhabited by the likes of Joe Buck.

A Dukie like Bilas complaining about 'flopping' and 'taking charges' is the height of hyporcisy. That has been their contribution to the sport over the last 30 years.

Not to mention he has a terrible voice

The guy came prepared exclusively with color about Craft being this dominant defender(and Trey repeatedly made him look stupid) and how dominant Sullinger was(and Then Morgan outplayed him). Guy just needs to do his homework next time.
