The All time series record is now 93-71 UM
There is no doubt that MSU took advantage of our struggles, and in turn built themselves into one of the better basketball programs in the country. I can admit that, and I can also admit we arent at the level of their program yet. However, with the right coach at the helm, and facilty improvements on the way...its coming. And many people simply dont realize that UM still has a commanding lead in this series.
In fact....of the 20+ varsity sports that MSU and UM compete in, MSU has a winning record all time vs UM in only womens basketball I believe. Yep...its that one sided. And RCMB lurkers..we know this is why the hatred festers. Its why you have to resort to "scUM" and "Wal-Mart Wolverines". Its why you have to convince yourself that having a fanbase composed of only people who attended your university is a good thing. Its why you talk about the "Blue Wall" and complain that Michigan ALWAYS gets all the attention. Thats because Michigan has and always will be the premier university in this state. A school with a stronger athletic history, higher academics, larger fanbase, more prestige, more national attention, higher revenue producing...the list can go on.
There have been some dark days in Ann Arbor the past few years. Even longer in basketball. I think UM and MSU will have some great battles in both football and basketball for years to come, and who knows what will happen. But....remember your place.
and we're more arrogant.
Haha..yes we are. I'm usually the last guy to talk trash, just had some MSU people get to me lately and had that on my mind.
This century's Gettysburg Address in my opinion.......
Now that we swept the season series and that the program is on the rise, do you guys think we will be able to recruit better in-state?
Surely the work of a Spartan:

Using Sparty math, alter the outcomes for no more than six years and you get "The record is pretty close to even at 71 wins a piece."
Sparty On!
It's quite simple Sparty mathematics. You just take the true record of 91-71, minus the few years that wins were vacated, divide that by shotgunning through a case of beer with 151 as a chaser, add it by one one too many bong hits, plus not too much intelligence and moral apptitude to begin with and then multiply it by a spray painted car and a couch set on fire. Once that's said and done it comes down to 71-71. Come on guys, its not rocket science..
Hey Sparty......Get the fuck off my all time record against you.
God I love Darius Morris right now.........
<br>He wants a fierce rivalry and when he gets it he can't take the heat and criticizes Morris.
<br>
<br>"I heard an interesting comment, that even in the NBA, because of Twitter and camps and all this, everybody is such friends that rivalries are kind of going away," he said. "I hope that doesn't happen because that's the fun part of college sports.".

<br>Tom Izzo: Spartans lack passion for history
<br>http://mlnurl.com/h7SW
<br>
<br>Comments about Harris and Simms being buddies remind me of how Dumars became soft on M Jordan. Ironic. I love that Morris hates these guys. We HAVE to.
I just want to call Valenti and gloat. That stupid know it all attitude grinds my gears. I can't help but think if there is such thing as kharma, I will find myself lining him up like a crochet ball in a pick up hockey game. Not sure how this ties in to the above, other than saying this feels good to watch. Game on..
Don't forget to record the conversation.
....listen to WTKA instead.

Spartan fans are experts at revising history. Michigan has been superior for most of their history, except for the post-Ed Martin years and the two Magic Johnson years, but MSU brags about their "superior program" to anyone who will listen. Michigan will once again be the superior program. They were this year, and it may get far worse for Sparty before it gets better.
They lose their two best players, Lucas and Summers. The Sparty Spinners on RCMB are already saying that losing them will be "addition by subtraction" and that Michigan "got lucky this year." What I see is a team that isn't going to be very talented. Also, Izzo is probably leaving. I can't imagine him wanting to stay and turn this back around when he probably gets at least one bona fide offer from the NBA nearly every year.
If Tom Gores buys the Pistons, what better way to make a splash than hiring Izzo?
Whether Izzo stays and tries to get players to listen to him again or whether someone else tries to pick up the pieces, it could be a very bad year in EL next year. And it could be a very good one in Ann Arbor. It's been a long wait, but it's worth it.
Must be Bill Laimbeer.
That is all.
It may very well be addition by subtraction for Sparty next year. We're all seeing first hand that team chemistry can be just as important as team talent.
But we also have better talent (and depth) than we did last year. Last year, Stu Douglass was our starting point guard and Laval Lucas-Perry was in the starting lineup at times.
to counter your self up vote.
a little carried away here? All that actually happened is that a promising M team managed to beat an unusually bad MSU team. And we're now crowing about being, what, fourth place in the conference?
Really?
The programs to beat in both Fball and Bball are run by our old friends and true sports rivals in Columbus. Let's get on with the job of beating them.
We should never consider East Lansing State University to be our rivals. In anything.
I hate this nonsense. Going out of your way to deny that a rivalry exists is just dumb. In basically every sport other than football, MSU is our primary rival. It makes no sense to pretend otherwise. John Beilein has beaten MSU twice and OSU twice now. Do you think there's any doubt in his mind which were more meaningful?
In truth, my post was intended to be a little over the top and a bit tongue-in-cheek, simply for fun and pot-stirring. Please forgive me for that.
But let me explain my thinking anyway, since respectful disagreement is so much a part of things here:
First, I'm admittedly primarily a football fan. Over the years, MSU's record doesn't compare to OSU's. Not against us, nor in the conference as a whole. UM and OSU have for many years been the gold standards in football in the B1G. That's why "The Game" is what it is nationally, and the State game isn't.
Football is the premier sport in UM athletics, and has been so since the 1870s. I place rivalry importance on football. That may be shortsighted, but there it is.
In terms of the strength of the athletic departments, OSU's is clearly superior to MSU's. OSU's also dwarfs every other program in revenues. I'm not saying this is a good or bad thing, it simply is what it is.
This year, OSU has been the B1G basketball team to beat. Not MSU. I guess I tend to think of the top teams as our rivals, not the also-rans.
So I've chosen OSU as "my" M rival. We may have other schools we like to beat, and MSU is surely one of them.
This is a stat I love bringing up to state fans when they are dogging me about BBall. I swear that they either do not realize this, or have blocked it out entirely as if it is somehow not a significant stat. Shit, they owned us for like ten years and still have not really caught up.
hotchicksoncampus.com rated us higher than MSU. So they cant even say they have hotter chicks anymore.
If you know the right places to go in Ann Arbor, the hotties are on par with anywhere else. Plus they respect themselves.
So is the record technically 93-71 or 91-71?
Or something else considering vacated wins?
With all due respect, I don't think anybody outside of people on sports blogs care about the overall lifetime record of a rivalry. Do you think 17 and 18 year old 5 star recruits will consider the fact that Michigan has an all-time double digit lead in the win column over OSU in football in making their school commitment? I'm doubting it. If you want to dub this as a "very sparty thing to say", go right ahead.
I would agree that many recruits could care less about the actual all-time numbers. But the actual all-time numbers are a large part of what gives a program it's national lasting image (something recruits care very much about).
This is where State fans like to ignore stats when they aren't very attractive for MSU.
And, nothing wrong with you thinking that, but saying that recruits don't care is your justification for throwing the all-time record out the window...
On that point, I would say almost all fans care to some degree about the all-time record. If they don't, they either don't follow all that closely, or they are looking for a reason to not care (State).
