Rumblings have been that he really values a UM degree. A lot of people expected him to stay for that reason, this seems to confirm that.

Sooooo, was searching for a thread now a month and a half later after this and this depressingly ended up being: Howard on scholarship, Castleton transfer, Bajema transfer, DDJ transfer, Livers is TBD, and Christopher didn't commit.

Dong punches for all!

I know players can turn it around but Nunez shots are OFF OFF. Also at one point in the season he had 1 rebound in nearly 140 minutes of playing time so if he isnt scoring then he needs to do other things. I guess hopefully he can become a solid 3pt shooter by his senior season if he is staying

There is no good argument for Nunez over Bajema.

Bajema played less than half the minutes of Nunez per game, and still managed to beat him in virtually every statistic. Shooting percentage being the big one.

Bajema : 76.9% on all FG, 57.1% on 3s

Nunez : 30.8% on all FG, 25.6% on 3s

You don’t turn away a guy that can shoot 40% from threes, even if their defense is sub par. And you certainly don’t do it in exchange for a guy that would be lucky to hit 30% next year. Especially when one guy is in year two and hasn’t improved.

The players are deciding whether or not to retain their guaranteed scholarships, yes.

Howard decided to bring Davis back for a 5th year. He decides which players to recruit and offer. He doesn't also get to force players to stay or go.

My memory is a little fuzzy, but I'm almost positive that Colton Christian and Matt Vogrich were holdovers from Amaker.

Brundidge is a fair one.  However, there is a big difference.  Brundidge was actually ranked pretty high but turned out not to be that good or a good fit.  Nunez was horribly low on the rankings...like below Caris Levert low.  Beilein built a reputation as turning those types of recruits into something, but Nunez was especially low.

My gut tells me that Livers and Wagner are both gone.  The stage was set when this story was released yesterday.  I know that it is a slow sports news cycle right now, but I also think this is setting us up so that fans are not shocked when it is officially announced that they have entered the draft.

Caveat: I'm not saying that Coach Howard would ever do this.

This story sure grew legs quickly. I don't know that Adrian Nunez' mother has any say over who retains a spot on the Michigan basketball roster. Someone stated that B1G basketball scholarships are 4-year guarantees. If so, he's entitled to stay. However, there are still ways of running off players if you need to open a scholarship. Again, I'm not in any way insinuating that Coach Howard would ever even consider that. But we're taking the word of the mother of a player who spoke before Coach Howard and staff have even had their post-season individual interviews with the players. The cart is way before the horse in this case.

That being said, I think that Nunez is the prototypical player who would thrive in Coach Beilein's system. He took these underrated guys (Stauskus, Dunc, MAAR, LeVert, etc) and turned them into stars. How many of them did it in their first or even second seasons? That's the true sign of a great coach, someone who can help a player maximize the talent he has. Nunez may have a breakout season next year. I remember watching his HS film and using it to teach my son a proper shooting form. His was pure. It's almost like he gets the yips once the clock starts running.
