Congrats to him! He’s formerly been a director of recruiting at Bethune-Cookman, before taking a defensive analyst position at Michigan. Due to whatever happened with Bob Shoop, Larkins was effectively the safeties coach last year too. He’s been key in forming a relationship with Justice Finkley, a SDE out of Alabama, and has many southern connections.

Note: This is Matt Dudek’s former job. Courtney Morgan is the director of player personnel. It sounds like both Larkins and Morgan are going to work together to expand the recruiting side of Michigan.

Glad to see a shake up of the recruiting department.  Michigan can lose a recruit for any number of reasons but resources should never be one of them.

I think there was order the first couple of years in the recruiting department as that original director of football operations (forget his name, the former Marine / Army guy) seemed to have the organizational infrastructure in place to support the recruiters we had on staff. Then when he left (DUI?), that's when Dudek came in, some of the talented recruiters left (Durkin, Wheatley, etc). I think that's when the recruiting program overall took a dip. So I think we're looking at a correction of a 3-4 year slide.

On a happy note, I've had a chance to talk to Aashon at multiple social events the past year... he was already identifying what needed to change in the recruiting department and his description of the recruiting process that he put in place once he got some authority after last year seems to be very well organized. A lot of assistant coaches were nodding their heads along basically saying that Larkins has brought a much needed focus and system and tracking process in place that was not there the past couple years to let the ass't coaches be able to balance the coaching and recruiting aspects of the job. I expect positive returns out of this hire in short term and long term.

I would also say that I think he has the right enthusiasm for the job, has
(from my perpective) that type of attitude that is able to connect to both the kids and the parents, and his wife is 100% supportive in the hosting / schmoozing parents part of recruiting.

UMBig11?

it sounds like this is another step towards what you have been asking for?

what’s left on your wishlist? Do you know Larkins - what do you think of the hire?

Definitely umgoblue11. Umbig11 has provided almost exclusively negative posts about how our program will win no games and how the program is in total shambles. Not saying he’s 100% wrong, but our boy’s gone sour. Funny, because I actually joined MGoblog in the Wilton Speight-named-starter year because of his insider info. Now when I see him post I brace myself to be dragged into a pit of despair.
