7 months doesn't seem that long ago

I was reading on ESPN one of the numerous Michigan secondary disaster stories and I was sort of excited to think about 2011 and possibly getting Woolfolk back to go with the all the experience the other guys are getting.

Then I thought to myself this seems silly because it was only 7 months ago I was arguing with Magnus the pros and cons of playing Woolfolk at CB as opposed to safety and now look where we are at.   What in the hell is going to happen to this team over the next 12 months?  Based on the ridculousness of things so far I think Dre Kirpatrick is going to transfer from Alabama today so he can be ready to go next year for us.

So my MGoblog search to look at the hilarity of the comments people posted on that thread brought me to Brian's "Spring Position Battles" post.   For anyone feeling down down today it's quite a read.

I think the best part is that if you would have posted the current depth chart  as the depth chart in March people would have been jumping out of buildings like it was 1929 and the market was crashing....7 months later most people have confidence we can take this crew into South Bend for a W.

I guess hope is a many dreaded thing

The secondary will get tested this weekend for sure.  We will definitely know where we are at after Saturdays game for sure.  I like what the defense did against UConn and I think that they will continue to bend but not break for most of the year.  The fact that our offense appears as if it cannot be stopped also bodes well for our defense.  The defense was able to rest for quite some time against UConn, in comparison to last season, where they were on the field way too long.  The 3-3-5 stack allows us to get as many athletes as we can on the field at once.  In theory the 3-3-5 stack is supposed to defend the spread well.  One thing is for sure, we will know after this weekend.

I like this comment:

-- I fully expect to see Woolfolk at deep safety. Even if that means two freshmen at CB, I think that's best for the defense.
-- Could Vlad play safety-in-the-box? With his knee injury I wonder if he has the speed to play deep. I think that will be a dog-fight between everyone.
-- Color me skeptical of Dorsey having an immediate impact. I think he's a freak athlete but I suspect he'll take some time to grasp the mental side of playing corner. I wouldn't be surprised if Avery and/or Christian are ahead of him opposite Turner to start the season.
