2024 in-state safety Jacob Oden committing on Thursday

Class of 2024 safety Jacob Oden, from Harper Woods (MI) Harper Woods, is committing on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. He released a top five of Michigan, Michigan State, Iowa, Penn State, and Tennessee. He's a 4-star, the #17 athlete, and #160 overall.

Right now all six crystal ball picks on 247 are in favor of Michigan.

Good news for sure.  Michigan is in the lead for handful of top 200 recruits in the 2024 class.  Get these guys committed asap and build the class for there.  The best way to build a top 10 class is get your stud QB (Davis) on board early and a good core of high profile guys around him to help recruit other top guys. Michigan has been missing that the last couple cycles.  I am very optimistic about this 2024 class though.

I know his Dad from coaching in the area; he helped a former player of mine and former UM commit try and get to a place where he’d be accepted. He’s a good dude and his son is a great kid and heck of a football player.

Brice Marich just dropped a crystal ball for Oden. Also dropped one for 4* 2024 EDGE Brian Robinson. Get Jadyn Davis committed in time and this 2024 class could get Michigan back on track to recruiting its usual top 10 classes.

If Davis doesn't commit man have we missed some QB opportunities in the last couple classes. I think a new contract for James Joseph and Davis committing can spring board this into a very good class. I am sure there are reasons for the delay of contract one being what is going to happen with Warde. Jim isn't signing anything until he knows who he's working for I'm sure!

Add in there that there were 3 elite QB prospects in state for 3 straight years; which will not happen again for a long time (Moore, Carr, Underwood).

If we land Davis it’s fine to miss on Moore and Carr (Davis is better than Carr too). However if the 3 highest QB prospects to come out of Michigan in a decade all go elsewhere; that’s a big loss. Moore is the first in-state 5* since Henson.

Ehh, wasn't Gardner a 5*? And wasn't Morris one too before mono sidelined him and he dropped because he didn't play most of his senior year?

I'm not terribly worried about "missing" out on top instate prospects as long as we're recruiting top talent elsewhere. Carr I don't think was ever coming to Michigan and nothing was going to change that. I got the sense he didn't want to go where his Grandpa was a coaching legend and that's more than fair. It's a lot of added and unnecessary pressure.
