With an occasional exception, Michigan should be recruiting tackles and "tackles" because failed tackles and "tackles" can move inside to guard or even center. You generally can't go the other way. Verdis Brown is a guard/center, and you don't need to recruit those guys every year.

2 Jake Longs.

One on the right side of the line, one on the left side.

Is that asking for too much?

and an exceptionally nice man in person.  He saw my friends and I at a bar in Miami (when he played for the Dolphins) wearing Michigan hats and came over and gave us a GO BLUE.  We were watching games and hadn't even noticed him - hard to believe, but he was on the other sid of the restaurant.  He sat down and talked with us for about 10 min about Ann Arbor and missing college.

I know - cool story bro, but really, he was one of the most authentic famous people / athletes you will ever come across.  And he is an absolute gigantic human being - it's absurd how big he is in person.

Would be very nice if Michigan could snag one of these O-line decommits. Won’t matter who the QB is if the O-line is a tire fire yet again.

Yes but the problem with OL is that it is not a spot for a true frosh to come in and be an immediate impact. The OL needs to improve, absolutely, but it's not gonna come from a 2018 kid. It is VERY rare that a true frosh OL is a stud or even good so banking on an 18 year old kid is just gonna end in disappointment.

Better bet is that two of Filiaga, Stueber, Honigford, Hudson or someone else develops enough to provide us solid bookends. JBB is the assumed RT unless someone blows him out of the water.

No, I did not include Newsome because I seriously doubt he can come back and play football and even if he does it won't be at the level it was before that injury. I hope I'm wrong, we could use him, but an injury that causes you to lose almost two years is really bad.

During one of the games this fall we used our binoculars to scope out Newsome standing on the Michigan sidelines.  The scary thing we saw was his injured leg (he was wearing shorts) with this very noticeable depression like some internal portion of his muscle in the knee area was gone.  I'm no medical person, so I'm wondering how do you recover from that and still play football?  Walking, maybe jogging, yes.  We'll see though.

Not a doctor either, but have several friends who are and while nothing is ever an absolute situation they've all stressed that it's not likely he returns..

I mean, I hope for the best and if he could be back at even 70% of what he was it'd be great. It just seems like we're setting ourselves up for massive disappointment if we're expecting him to be back on a football field.

Considering that the surgeons were weighing the possibility of amputating his leg, anybody who is making the blanket assumption that Newsome will play again for Michigan is irrationally optimistic to the point of delusion. If he ever does play, consider it nothing less than a medical miracle.

Filiaga

Hall

Mayfield could go inside

2019 recruit Rumler certainly is not a tackle at the college level

tackles on the depth chart

Newsome - may never return

Ulizio - did not fare well

JBB - good run blocker, 1 year left

Stueber, Honigford and Hudson - RS Freshman

Hayes - true Freshman

so yes - take tackles!!!!

we should be taking any offensive line recruits that we can get. Nothing wrong with keeping the cupboard full. That being said, QB, OT, S, and WR seem to be the staff's focus right now.
