2012 Defense

Submitted by Robbie Moore on
I'm watching the snow fall and have too much time on my hands since my appointments cancelled. So, I considered who the starting 11 on defense might be in 2012. Without further ado: DL: Roh, Campbell, Wilkins, Black LB: Furman, Robinson, Gordon S: Turner, Johnson CB: Dorsey, Christian Good? Here's hoping Fast? Very Big 10 Championship Caliber? I think so

I might catch a few flies, but Magnus come on. You just put up your Mid 90's depth chart. Totally sarcastic post. I love depth charts as much as the next guy, but a 2012 depth chart for a team that has exactly 2 guys we have seen that would warrant any excitement to be playing at that time is ridiculous. Other than Roh and a very limited sighting of W. Campbell who have we seen play a down that anybody would want to see out there in 2012?? We have 25 or so of pretty talented d players in the last 2 classes we have depth at every position let's let em battle it out. I'm excited but filling in names on a paper of guys we have never seen is a little pointless. 2011 depth chart is more fun just because of this..... RVB, Martin, Campbell, Roh. That is going to be 4 badass mofos out there. 2011 boys....Shaq redemption tour for Michigan.....Freep tell me how my ass taste!!!!

We need some quality depth on the line and at LB. The 2011 recruiting class needs at least 6-7 talented defensive players for the 2012 defense to be able to achieve greatness.

Demens couldn't find playing time in 2009 when Ezeh and Mouton were walking train wrecks and the combo of Fitzgerald/Leach couldn't get the job done. Despite four subpar performances ahead of time, he didn't even sniff the field. I don't think it's too soon to assume that he might be a career backup, although I don't think the door is necessarily shut.

If you were being sarcastic, I apologize. Honestly, the format for your post was so muddled that I stopped trying to comprehend the entire piece.

I'm not going to try to speculate who is going to start or where simply because I don't have the insider knowledge/desire to do so. I do hope that it will be a good group because they are going to have offenses throwing the kitchen sink at them because our offense in 2012 hopefully will average 40 per game with the number of experienced pieces in place by then. I would rather have some 42-10 type games than 42-38...but I'll take either one.

Yes, now that you said it, it reminded me about that, completely forgot when his eligibility was going to run up. Roh - Campbell - Lalota Bell - Furman - Robinson - Hawthorne Turner - Dorsey - Emilien - Christian That will most likely be our lineup in 2012, barring we get no stud defensive recruits in 2011.

It's ok to consider this defense a 3-4. HOWEVA, if you call it a 3-4, then ROH MUST BE A LINEBACKER Whether u call it a 3-4 or a 4-3 depends on if u consider Roh to be a LB or a DE. If you think Roh is a DE, then we run a 4-3. If you think Roh is an OLB, then we run a 3-4.

A2 to GVSU is pretty much right. The reason I say this is because even if we gave you the benefit of the doubt that you think Roh will grow into a true DE, you don't have anyone in your line-up to take his DE/LB hybrid spot. You have 4 guys (maybe not Bell) who are S/LB types, and nobody for the Deathbacker spot. That line-up is like having 6 or 7 DB's on the field at once.

My Prediction: DT- Ash NT- Campbell DE- Wilkins Quick- Roh LB- Hawthorne LB- Demens Spinner- Furman CB- Turner CB- Christian Box Safety- Robinson Deep Safety- Dorsey The defense would be definitely have a bunch of athleticism and a whole bunch of SPEED.

At linebacker...Davion Rogers. I look at him and can't get Carl Banks out of my mind. Banks was 6'4" 200# coming out of high school. A D lineman. Quick. Somewhat under the radar. Wound up the #3 pick in the NFL draft as a 6'4" 235# linebacker. I realize I am not a professional evaluator or a seer but damn, a man can hope, right?
