2011 Mr. Basketball Finalists revealed
The 2011 Mr. Basketball finalists are:
- G Dwaun Anderson from Suttons Bay (MSU commit)
- G Carlton Brundidge of Southfield (UM commit)
- F LaDontae Henton of Lansing Eastern (Dayton commit)
- G Brandan Kearney of Detroit Southeastern (MSU commit)
- C Amir Williams of Detroit Country Day (OSU commit)
People who know MI HS basketball think Henton will win it. If not Henton, it will be Kearney.
Suttons Bay, eh? Big talent for such a small high school
I don't rememer the whole story, but he is adopted. On a side note, I played in a few pickup games against him when he was a sophomore. Got dunked over a few times. He had some ups, even at that young age.
Is that you?
I kid, I kid
lol
These dunks were a little less forceful and I'm sure there wasn't as much of a posterization factor. But they were impressive, and expected.
Chris Weber dunked over me in a pick up game. That is my greatest moment of glory.
It's depressing.
My father is an MHSAA official in the Lansing area and he has very high praises for the kid out of Eastern, from the times he's worked his games. He thinks the kid can really play. It is nice to see Brundidge getting in their as well.
I've seen Henton play. Kid's a baller... however, he also has some character issues and is a bit undersized (these things kept MSU and UM away).
Him and Kearney were, in my opinion, the best MI HS players this year. Henton put up bigger numbers so most people think he'll win.
Anderson plays in too small a school, Brundidge didn't really put up ridiculous stats (and Kearney outplayed him badly when they went head-to-head), and Williams was ridiculously disappointing (OSU has a project in their hands).
I went to Eastern and remember two years ago when he was a sophmore, this kid was already a monster. I had the same gym class and played a pickup game or two with him before. Nice to see someone from my shitty ole eastern get some type of recognition.
As a Dayton fan, I can't even express how excited I am for LaDontae Henton to suit up next year. I've heard that Izzo wanted to offer the kid but just couldn't find the room in this class. Obviously hearsay, but Henton puts up some absolutely monster stats.
Izzo didn't offer him for the same reason the rest of the Big Ten (minus PSU) didn't offer him--kid's trouble and he's a bit small for how he plays (PF mentality in a SG/SF body).
Not really high on talking smack about a 17-year-old HS kid for being "trouble" without, you know, having anything to back that up. I do think he may be a bit of a "tweener", but so is Talor Battle and he carved out a nice career.
You know the drill--either a kid goes to Michigan or he's just this side of Charles Manson. That's the way it goes around here.
Such a troll. Or you really are living up to your name. I can't decide which.
If you don't like how the blog and it's posters operate, then get the hell outta here. No one cares what you have to say troll.
We don't take to kindly to ur type round here, sean ornery.
Kudos to Carlton for this well-deserved recognition. He's probably at least 3rd or 4th in the pecking order, but it's still a tremendous honor to be a finalist. My only beef with the finalist list is that my U.P. basketball brethren get shut out again. When, oh when, will some hot prospect from Escanaba, Houghton, or Iron Mountain get their due respect for Mr. Basketball consideration?! I guess Suttons Bay is as close as we get. (/S)
Remember when Lloyd Schinnerer from Bad Axe, MI was playing for Michigan!
Not exactly the thumb....but former Syracuse guard Eric Dievendorf (spelling?) was from Bay City.
I'm still trying to grow a dirt-stache chin-strap beard in honor of the white Syracuse guards of the past decade.
back some years. (BTW, Bad Axe's helmets used to have wings, no? Maybe still do ...)
Josh Asselin was from Caro. More recent UM hoopster from the Thumb.
This might make a few of them with they were attending Northwestern for their renowned academics.

How am I to judge if this was appropriate or not? I need video to make up my mind. Also, was the non-Northwestern student hot? If so, I'd say it was definitely appropriate.
How did we get on the subject of the thumb? anyhow....
Eric D from Bay City ALMOST transferred to Saginaw Arthur Hill instead of Oak Hill. That team would have been crazy. That would have been 2005. Arthur Hill won the state championship in 2006, likely would have won it in 2005 as well with Devendorf (2005 was Dar Tucker's sophomore year).
fwiw, Draymond Green almost went to Arthur Hill as well. If Devendorf and Green had both gone there, Arthur Hill likely would have had 4 straight state championships.
Staying in Saginaw there are probably some upset that Tommy McCune (WVU commit) did not make the list, but his season was so erratic that statistically he just doesn't deserve to be there.
Now, back to Bay City (and Saginaw), it will be interesting to see if Matt Costello (BC Western, MSU commit) or Jordan Hare (Arthur Hill, uncommitted) make the list next year.
