20 years ago today: Tshimanga Biakabutuka eviscerates Ohio State

Submitted by MainStreetMagic on

On November 25th, 1995, Tshimanga "Tim" Biakabatuka ripped off 313 yards on 37 carries, ending previously unbeaten Ohio State's chances at a Rose Bowl berth.  You all know the story.  Go Blue.

at the game. I still remember Buckeye fans, pre-game, toting around homemade signs saying "Rose Bowl bound" and all that. It was a sweet Michigan victory over a very good Ohio State team, and Tim Biakabutuka ran like a madman that day. Weather was exceptional for that time of the year, too. A great experience.

Go Blue!

I was 15 and already a Michigan fan, but this was the game that launched me into fanatical obsession with M football. OSU just could not stop our running game. Tim played with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind. I remember he would break off a run and my dad and I would repeatedly yell Biakabatuka! Mom told us to quiet down but it didn't work.

This game defines the Carr vs. Cooper years more than any other to me. I was 10 when it took place and I always expected Michigan to win The Game because we always did regardless of records while I was growing up. Here's to making Urban Cooper 2.0 starting this week. Go blue!

Was remarkable for a lot of reasons, but I've always been amazed by how close it was the whole game until Michigan broke it open in the 4th. The OSU D just ran out of gas after chasing #21 all game.

Another treasured memory from this game was Woodson's interception to ice it at the end. As I remember he picked it off near the eastern sideline and headed across the field to the the western sideline and was finally starting to head downfield when he was pushed out of bounds near the Michigan bench. The coaches had been motioning for him to take a knee the whole time. The celebration was on at that point. Easily the most memorable game I have ever attended.

Ed-die!  Ed-die!  Ed-die!  I was in section 25 in the first row behind the band.  There is no M Stadium experience like an OSU win, especially with Tim going off and OSU absorbing their first loss.

Terry Glenn before this game: "We need to keep Michigan down here where dey belong...just like da rest of dem teams....and....kick der butt like we did everybody else." Every year with the trash talk and every year not being able to back it up. The Cooper years were just epic. There was also a great picture of Eddie George crying as the final seconds ticked off the clock that has, sadly, been removed from the Internet.

Terry Glenn also said the week of the game that "Michigan is nobody." I'll never forget reading that in my paper copy of The Wolverine. That pissed me off even as a 13 yr old kid! Borton wrote a great piece in The Wolverine really sticking it to Glenn after the game was over. Still have it in the office! Go Blue!

Nobody expected us to win that game... was so nice seeing Biakautuka (and the o-line) gash Ohio for run after run.   If you watch the video highlights you'll see it wasn't very long runs, but 5, 8, 10, 15 yards, again and again.

Remember how the streaker struck the Desmond Heisman pose before getting tackled?

An ammmmmaaaazing day. The light snow, TimB going OFF, we wreck Buckeyes AGAIN.....everything!

That was my freshman year.......20 years ago.....dang!

Thanks for this thread!

That was a talented defense that TB shredded.

I remember the Sports Ilustrated article after the game reported about the UM pregame lockeroom...how one of the DL (Trent Z? Horn?) passionately implored everyone to be completely spent after the game.

Kinda wished Cooper put in Terry Glenn in their secondary to attempt to atone for running his mouth that week.  He couldn't have done any worse than their other DBs.

with the posting times on this thread,  I posted my earlier comment at about 11:30, not 3am.  I remember this since I was dropping a deuce (backing the motorhome out of the garage), so it was memorable.

Server upgrade?  Or something more strange?  Hmmm...

EDIT:  Seems to be fixed now as this posting time is correct...but there is no way so many of the posts were in the wee hours...

I was watching on TV in Murfreesboro, TN where I was going to school at MTSU.   The entire bar was filled with Michigan-haters (as they are down there) yelling obscenities at the screen every time Tim got the football.  It was great.

This was 2 years before Woodson-Manning, and when that happened....I knew that TN fans hated Michigan to begin with.... Woodson pushed them over the edge.

And my family came to town for Thanksgiving and The Game. My dad was, for the first time in his life, completely speechless. Such a fun game to watch.

Tim was the only reason I used the panthers in nfl blitz 64. Just to hear them say his name when he scored brings back memories, oh sweet 300+ memories.
