1990 Rose Bowl

On ESPN Classic. I remember it well. But I don't recall it fondly.

The paperback version of the Bo biography had an "afterward" in which Bo talked about this game.  He heard one of the refs in the locker room laughing and saying, "There's no way I was gonna let that son of a bitch win his last game here."

I have seen one worse bullshit call in the history of sports: the one that robbed Armando Galarraga of a perfect game.  At least one of them was an honest mistake...

To 3 Rose Bowls vs SC and the way the demographics have changed over the last 20 or so years it's safe to say that Most of LA is a Shit Hole! Yes I live in a nice neighborhood in Southern Cali but watching the demographics change is like watching the yard in a prison facility. You know it's peaceful but the animals are reDy to explode at any time. What a shame!

Is this the game where Harbaugh joyfully abandons the state of California in pursuit for his dream job as the head football coach for the wolverines or is that a different year? ... Or am I drunk?

Whether it was heart attacks or injuries or corrupt/incompetent refs, he got the shit end of the stick almost every fucking time.

Friend of mine played against Tony Boles at Westland John Glenn (same school Lloyd coached) and said he was absolutely ridiculous.  Could cut and avoid defenders like a water bug.

Had a good career at UM but it's sad to hear how he turned out.  Very, very sad.

although since it was so horrible, it's not as 'cool' as we all would like.

greg robinson (YTGR) is a long-time friend and his brother and i were at that game.  greg was the OC that year for the bruins and he got us on the ucla sidelines for the michigan v. ucla game in the rose bowl earlier that year.  talk about having a tough time being a 'gracious' guest on the sideline as i was trying to calmly root for michigan amidst all of the players.

anyway, early on in the rose bowl game greg's brother points out that particular referee who ended up throwing that b.s. flag and says, 'see that guy there?   he is a total USC suck-ass.  he will find a way to screw michigan at some point during this game'.  lo and behold, within a couple of hours that proved to be prophetic.

I never understood why the hell they picked the Rose Bowl to be the destination of such a prestigious bowl game between the B10 and Pac12. Like how much homer can you get with that stadium location.

What a joke.

friend of mine, now on this blog, happened to be in Indiana years ago listening to sports talk radio, and the ref in question called in to say, basically, that he threw that flag to screw Bo

I was in my junior year at the Air Force Academy and on the swim team, we had our Christmas training trip to So Cal that season and I got tickets to the game through my dad as an alum.  It was such a sureal experience, but couldn't stand watching him lose that game...the infamous clipboard thorwing incident.

amongst a sea of Trojans on the western side of the stadium. They stopped Ricky Ervins and Marijuanovich 4 downs inside the 5. Refs gave them four more downs on and finally on 8th down Marijuanovich bootlegged for the TD, SC having determined they couldn't run it up the middle. The holding call on Bobby Abrams was atrocious. #24 from Henry Ford was on the side opposite Stapleton's fake. A classic Pac-10 screw job. Glad Bo went down with pistols firing with the 15-yard penalty. A fitting end.
