12/2/2015: The day MGoBoard jumped the shark

Submitted by FormAFarkingWall on

This board, once a bastion of wit and intelligence, has officially jumped the shark. There are still a slew of good, thoughtful posters but sadly their contributions get buried amongst the trash spewed by what has become the majority.

D.J. Durkin left for a promotion. Head coaching opportunities in P5 conferences do not come along every day, and he seized upon a valuable opportunity. He likely interviewed last week. If he hadn't, I'm guessing Maryland goes in a different direction. His opportunity required immediate action and I cannot fault him for that. If you have ever interviewed for a job you know two things. 1. You dont control the schedule. 2. You likely lied to your current employer as to why you were out, but still gave it your full effort when you went back to work.

He may take Partridge and/or others with him, offering them promotions from their current roles at Michigan. Offering promotions to staff he is familiar with is not slimy, it is standard practice for new head coaches.

Trashing a coach that led a strong defense with class is unbecoming, mlive-like, and very much the antithesis of what has made MGoBoard great. Make MGoBoard great again.

Posts with negative votes (maybe needed multiple negative votes) were hidden automatically. Grayed out and just left with the subject line unless you clicked on it. I'd welcome that back.

Also, good to see this OP. It's true that things have been worse before. But I've been really surprised how much nearly everyone seems to hate Durkin.

This.  People forget how bad it was with the end of the RR era.  This place was BRUTAL then.  Hell, after the loss to MSU last year it was terrible.

This is just a bunch of people bitching about something because UM lost against OSU.  Flip the end result and nobody is complaining about loyalty.

Hell, I'm all for it. He gets more power and more money so good on him. It's the way he went about it and is now trying to steal staff members that bothers me.

What staff members are rumored to join him? Who was connected to Durkin before working here? I can't think of anyone. If Partridge is gonna leave for a coaching gig, I can't blame him. I highly doubt Maryland magically jumps in it for Gary.

Oh God! Not giving a recruit's coach a job (which he was very much qualified for and has performed wel)! Won't someone think of the children?

That "icky taste" is from being shitted on by most half decent teams the past couple of years. Harbaugh comes in and makes excellent hires, including some that probably help with recruiting certain kids, to help us win and you're complaining? All this is within the rules and you'd be an idiot not to take advantage, especially since the candidate was more than qualified.

I'm tired of us being the choir boys of college football. I want us to win fairly, but that doesn't mean we have to be angels and not take advantage of every possible opportunity we may get.

Went to great lengths to assemble this staff. Durkin interviewed the week of the OSU game in his first year. It was a punk move. You can be all "good on him" if you want but you are stretching to support a guy that gave up 40 points to Indiana and OSU and failed to make any adjustments in the middle of a title chase while interviewing for other in division jobs and now is trying to take staff. Very odd you are going out of your way to support him. This is not a 'coaching tree" situation. It is a borderline sabotage situation from a guy that was here one year and checked out during the week of our biggest rivalry guy and who is now trying to pull staff and recruits. I would re-evaluate your take a little. I am looking for 60-0 the next time we play Maryland. Run it up coach. Run it up good.

ah. I don't think I need to here from Harbaugh that he was upset that his DC was interviewing for another position during Ohio State week. I think it kind of goes without saying in that regard. See you soon DJ. The North Remembers.

There is a lull between The Game and the bowl game announcement. Don't act like this hasn't happened before. You might want to leave for the offseason (OT OT OT BABY) before you have the audacity to insult anyones intelligence on this board. Go Blue!

Maybe this board has too many people who can't agree to disagree, who believe that anyone who has a different opinion than they do lacks "wit and intelligence" and has "jumped the shark."

Oh wait.
