TomVH: QB Cardale Jones: Interesting Convo

Cardale Jones is a quarterback at Glenville, in Ohio, so he hates Michigan right? Well, I just had an interesting conversation with him. I actually ended up telling him halfway through, that I still wasn't sure if I believed what he's saying to me, because of his school affiliation.

I started out by asking him how Braxton Miller's recent commitment to Ohio State would affect him. He said it wouldn't. I took that as meaning that maybe he wasn't thinking about Ohio State seriously, but he told me that Miller wouldn't scare him away. I should note that Jones doesn't have an offer from OSU, and with Miller's commitment, likely won't get one. However, from my past experience, when a kid continues to talk about a school, it usually means that there's still mutual interest. None of that makes sense to me; I don't know why Ohio State would continue to pursue him.

The second part was that he told me he actually grew up a MIchigan fan, and he really likes the Wolverines. His words were, "I was a huge fan of them growing up, and now I have a chance to play for them, so what's not to like?"

I wanted to say, "Coach Ginn hates Michigan, stop lying to me!" but that came out as, "Wait, what?" Jones says he hasn't narrowed his list down, but he does really like Michigan.

I eventually, in a polite, subtle way, asked what coach Ginn's perspective on Michigan and head coach Rich Rodriguez was. Cardale told me that his coaches opinion doesn't matter, or change where he wants to end up. Coach Ginn told him to pick the place that he feels the most comfortable for the next 4-5 years. Read into that how you will.

I'm not usually a tin foil kinda guy, but there's some obvious links to Glenville's lack of friendship with Michigan. Take all of this FWIW, and I don't even really know what any of it means. I still think he'll end up at Cincinnati, or West Virginia. Just thought I would share.

Here is to a hoping this kid can start a trend at that very talented school ..

in the end ill still believe a GVille kid comes to UM only when it happens. too bad Cardale doesn't take the non offer from OSU personally.

If Rodriguez wants Cardale Jones to play QB, then I'm thinking he wants to move away from running the zone read option.  That's the only logical conclusion.  Jones isn't John Navarre, but I'm somewhat baffled that he would be recruited for a run-heavy attack.

That was one 1 game . the state championship game and IMO he looked like he could run just fine . you have to look at the people he is running by . just because the kid looks slow doesn't mean he is . that 4.98 is a reported 40 too . but then again i really have no idea what is fast anymore people have such FAKE times that i don't know what to believe . all i know is DRob runs a 4.4 40 and not many people are close to him in a race which would mean most athletes run 4.5+ and a 4.9 though not a Drob speed would still be a good pick up for the team is he is willing to red-shirt and work on such things a speed, and his throwing motion

Weren't Ginn Senior's problems maybe more with Carr & Co. and some weirdness with Ginn Junior's recruitment and perhaps less with M as a program?

Maybe things have thawed a bit in that respect and we might perhaps be looking at a new day in Glennville --> Michigan recruiting? Certainly not steering kids toward M, but no longer actively steering them away?

The whole Pierre Woods/Ginn Jr. thing was a copout. The change in coaches at Michigan meant we could actually maybe get the Glenville kids on campus (Marcus Hall official visit, Aundrey Walker at the February 20th Junior Day), but at the end of the day, we're still Michigan, and they're still a bunch of OSU fans.

I've actually had a conversation with another Glenville kid. Denzell Burton, who is a 2012 prospect. I asked him if he was an Ohio State fan and he said he was a fan. I then asked him " do you hate Michigan?" and he responded with "no, not at all. I actually kinda like them." I think the Glenville guys are giving Michigan a bit more of a look lately and will continue to. Hopefully we'll get a big commit out of there in the next couple years.
