Big Ten Recruiting Rankings: 10-7-12
When faced with insomnia, I apparently update the recruiting rankings. Scout's (sorry, Fox Sports Next's) new layout is an absolute unnavigable travesty. As there was all of one new commitment this week, that's all I've got. Changes since the last rankings:
10-1-12: Illinois picks up Tyler White.

I think D. Finley got his 4th star on scout.

Nope, still listed as a three-star [LINK].
October 7th, 2012 at 10:31 AM ^
For some reason the link that Allen Trieu tweet doesn't work anymore
(Scout.com: Midwest: Added Stars)
so i can't find the article, but D. Finley and Josh Augusta (Illinois and MSU target) will be getting their 4th star once scout is updated.
October 7th, 2012 at 10:10 AM ^
To hell with Notre Dame, no reason to include them in the BIG TEN recruiting rankings.
October 7th, 2012 at 10:19 AM ^
Number of times Michigan plays Notre Dame over the next two seasons: 2
Number of times Michigan plays Wisconsin over the next two seasons: 0
Do we really need to have this debate every week? Not only are they a great barometer about how Michigan is recruiting in the Midwest, and not only does Michigan go up against ND for far more of the same recruits than they do most of the Big Ten, but including them gives you more information... for free. Deal with it.

October 7th, 2012 at 4:38 PM ^
There are plenty of us that appreciate seeing the ND recruiting updates. Your complaints are as dumb as the people that complain about non-revenue sports threads. Just don't look at them and problem solved.
October 8th, 2012 at 1:35 AM ^
Oh and more on Ace's point...we may not play whiskey for three more years but they have a sudden and direct impact on who plays in the BIG ten championships game. They matter in who plays for the rose bowl and potential bcs or playoff game. So yeah, their recruiting ability matters waaaaayyyyyy more than an independent that will only play guaranteed games agts Purdue and msu for the next seven years.
October 8th, 2012 at 12:03 PM ^
You seem not to understand Ace's logic:
Number of times Michigan plays Notre Dame over the next two seasons: 2
Number of times Michigan plays Wisconsin over the next two seasons: 0
So nd is a regular opponent of Michigan's. They've played every season over the last decade.
Do we really need to have this debate every week? Not only are they a great barometer about how Michigan is recruiting in the Midwest, and not only does Michigan go up against ND for far more of the same recruits than they do most of the Big Ten, but including them gives you more information... for free. Deal with it.
nd is a midwest recruiting powerhouse. They offer many of the same kids as Michigan. Along with osu, these are basically the power programs in our region, fighting for many of the same kids.
Alabama, Stanford, Oregon, USC, etc fulfill neither of criteria. Perhaps osu is the primary comparator, but to say that nd is not even in the conversation strictly due to conference alignment is silly.
October 8th, 2012 at 8:15 AM ^
Who cares? Honestly, what difference does it make? It's not like this is an official award like "Big Ten Player of the Year" and Notre Dame players are in the running. It's simply a reference point, and we play them every year.
If you don't like it, just ignore the Notre Dame section. There's no point in bitching about it every week.
Frankly, if Ace wants to do a ranking of every opponent we play for the next seven years, I don't really care. If I want the info, I can use it. If I don't, I can scroll right past it. You people are complaining about having too much free information. How dare Ace!!!!!
October 7th, 2012 at 10:40 AM ^
I know it's painfully obvious but let's all reflect on where we were two years ago.

October 7th, 2012 at 10:49 AM ^
only 3 of those 11 commits are even on our team right now. And that's only from 2 years ago.
October 7th, 2012 at 12:28 PM ^
But comparing this year's class to last year's haul is really impressive. Great class last year, but this year's is studded with loads of consensus fours stars. Deep… W-O-W.

Now if Hoke & Co's emphasis on character and their ability to evaluate it proves out, it should translate into better retention and the team will be in much better shape a few years from now, both in depth and talent development.
October 7th, 2012 at 11:09 AM ^
Yea that's weird, looks like the change over to Fox sports net left them out.
October 7th, 2012 at 10:11 PM ^
I just went to the new Scout / Fox whatever website. Calling it an "absolute unnavigable travesty" is generous. That thing is ridiculous. I literally left without any of the information I wanted because I couldn't figure out how to get it.
