New Football Staff

  • Linguist got Rashod Bateman to go to Minnesota
  • Coherent staff with a coherent vision? Sam thinks Nua is going to get more pluggers now that Brown isn’t demanding upfield dudes for scheme.
  • What do you want from Harbaugh right now? Recruit some guys.
  • Have some opportunity to reshape the roster with transfers this year.
  • Hart could stick around for a few coaches, or be one.

2021 Basketball Recruiting

  • Watched the IMG game, Houstan is already an efficient college player. Young Glen Rice?
  • Diabate is Jaren Jackson Jr. Jett Howard is THJ.
  • Really in it for Walker.

Maryland Game:

  • Maryland came to shut down Dickinson, Michigan came to shut down Maryland, and both got what they wanted.
  • Could Mike Smith come back? Yeah. Could Brown? Eh. Could Eli? He likes school as much as Seth, so maybe.

Hockey things discussed:

  • ND series is always tough on a young team. Score first.
  • Seth thinks M always plays well against ND on the second swing.

I just need Hart to recruit a guy and call him Mike Hart but fast.

Tried to listen to this last night on podbean and the audio from Sam and Seth was nearly broken. Glad it got fixed.

It's also fun to realize that this, the "least athletic team going forward" has the biggest collection of violent dunkers since maybe Taylor, Traylor, and Baston.

I have been working on a way to record it on my end because it sounds a lot better. Unfortunately my setup for the podcast doesn't work with their software. I'm not a sound engineer but I suspect the streaming software is trying to use both channels my sound card is capable of, so when I try to route a channel to recording it loses half the feed (eg I won't be able to hear Sam or Craig Ross).

So I am going to say this as carefully as I can.  I love Chaundee Brown.  He is great on this team and he is great as the sixth man.  He is the perfect college 3-and-D guy.  However....

I think the MGoCrew is a little too high on his defense and prospects at the next level.  He is a pest on D and uses his limited minutes to maximum effort.  But his foot speed is not what Brooks has and no where close to Charles Matthews.  I would love to see Brown get a chance....but he's a 6'5" guard that can't handle the ball.  I think he gives it a shot, but don't see him sticking.

Let's get Smith jnto the Ross school and keep him around next year.  That is ideal.

Eli is one zippy dude. But I am curious why you think Charles might be so much more fleet of foot than Chaundee; you may be right, but I just don't have that impression. In fact, I see both as moving with a kind of nice, deliberate, not crazy speed. Your final analysis would be mine, too--I'd wish Chaundee all the luck in the world, but not assume that he'd find a long-term spot in the league.

I have now watched a decent amount of Montverde and IMG bball.

Houstan is always calm, relaxed and knows what the hell he is doing. Smooth and efficient.  He fills up the stat sheet quietly unlike....

Diabate fills the stat sheet violently. You notice everything he does.  He is so athletic.  But he runs around sometimes like a chicken with its head cut off.  He is so full of energy - it almost makes me nervous watching him him play.  But damn, that atheltic ability is off the charts.

The 2 are polar opposites IMO.  Both in good ways.

Diabate is one of those recruits who will end up being a better pro than college player. He has so much potential that it likely won't be realized at Michigan. He can do a lot of things in flashes but not enough consistency to say he can do this in the next level on a consistent basis. The only thing he has to hang his hat on is defense. He's an elite athlete who can switch 1-5, be a rim protector and be a pest everywhere.

Houstan is ready to contribute immediately on both side. He'll fill in Livers role real well on the offensive end. Defensively, he's long and understands positioning which is a good thing. He's an average athlete which limit his ceiling as a player but it's fine in college level.

Diabate will definitely contribute offensively at just due to his athleticism and length. I think Juwan will really help him with offensive skillset because one thing I have noticed about Diabate is that sometimes he gets to the rim a bit out of control and doesn't really know the best way to finish. I think Juwan can really help him with that

Little bit of a threadjack here, but how is Iowa still ahead of us in KenPom? They just got smacked by double digits against an average IU team and have 2 more losses than us and are still ahead of us?

Point margins matter. Not just wins and losses. It's like SP+ in football. Michigan also got smacked. And we had that close game against Oakland. That's probably the worst result for either team on the season for the advanced stats even though M won. Michigan wasn't playing lights out at the beginning of the year. One of Iowa's losses is to Gonzaga. That probably helps their ranking since it was fairly close in a high scoring game.
