Reports: Bryan Mone Breaks Ankle, Possibly Out For Season Comment Count

Rumors that sophomore DT Bryan Mone had suffered a serious injury in Tuesday's practice first hit The Fort yesterday, and unfortunately they've been corroborated by multiple sources, including a Scout writer based out of Mone's home state of Utah:

Michigan isn't commenting on the matter, which comes as little surprise.

This would be a major blow to depth on the interior of the defensive line. Ryan Glasgow, Willie Henry, and Maurice Hurst are going to have to play a lot of snaps, and Mone's absence likely means larger roles than expected for Matt Godin and Brady Pallante, as well. Chris Wormley should also be able to fold inside on occasion, though that will in turn test Michigan's already lacking depth at end.

With Mone looking poised for a breakthrough season, there's no question this is a significant loss, even at a position of relative strength for the program. Here's hoping for a speedy and full recovery.

Probably not enough information yet.  It the fibula (only) is fractured and there is no displacement of the joint, probably no surgery needed and he returns later this year.  If the ankle joint is displaced (shifted), surgical plating is necessary and probably he is out for the year and redshirts.  The joint needs to be perfectly aligned to prevent future problems such as an arthritic joint.

He was one of the guys that I was really looking forward to seeing play this season.

On the bright side if he was going up against one of O-Linemen, maybe Drevno is working magic on them.

This is terrible for him, I hope he has a speedy/full recovery. I also hope this is the extent of our major camp injuries.

I need a mulligan on my breakout player now.  Hope the injury is slight, and recovery quick,.  If he drinks as much milk as his little belly can hold, he should be good for the opener.

I did see a player getting out of a van yesterday or Tuesday outside practice facility that was in a wheelchair with his entire right leg in a cast. So someone certainly has at least a fairly serious leg injury at the least. The guy was bigger and I could see it being Mone. Sucks

Just sucks--not just a guy we were getting un-ignorable practice reports about but one of the nicest guys on the team who was so looking forward to playing in front of his family in a few weeks. Just absolutely sucks.
