Nick Eubanks completes this year's most llama-out-of-nowhere recruitment by committing while on a mid-week official:

The Iowa State run on Chase Allen's crystal ball is now explained.

Eubanks a four-star to three services. 247 ranks him the #11 TE in the country and a four star; ESPN has him the #2 TE-H (they split their TE rankings) and a four star inside their top 300. Rivals has him a four star just outside their top 250. Scout is the only service to rank him a three-star.

A more informative update is coming.

That may be true. I'll admit that I have a hard time balancing showboating with talent sometimes, but that's partly because Hoke/Harbaugh don't put up with showboating. In other words, if the attitude issues persist, kids won't get on the field. From my perspective, it's tough to tell whether a kid like that can be "fixed" or not. So yeah, it's a projection, and it's not going to be accurate 100% of the time.

I watched the highlights and I feel like I'm watching a poor man's Devin Funchess in a way, which ought to be a good thing considering Funchess is about to start in the Super Bowl, but he looks so much less polished and less of a pure football player (compared to a guy like Khaleke Hudson who is pure as the driven snow in football terms).

Still, a lot of major programs were hot after the kid, and a couple of years of Harbaugh boot camp and I'll bet he could be something special.

EDIT: From the video, here's what was worrying me--

1. He seems to walk around a lot during ongoing plays.

2. For someone who looks as physically dominant compared to the other kids on the field, he doesn't necessarily play dominant. He doesn't ever really shed that first tackler, for example.

3. Doesn't like to attack the ball.

Still, obviously has the athleticism to play at the highest level, and the offense he was in (in highlights, anyway) mostly consisted of short dump passes. Could be a really exciting dude being moved all over the field to create matchup problems.

I don't think that's the correct way to look at it. Of course the staff thinks his issues can be coached up, but that doesn't always happen and they know that. Magnus, other scout-types and the coaches are basically in the business of opining on how likely that will happen. Even for the D1 coaches, it's just an educatedguess.

Everybody gets to see the same film Magnus does. Others also get to see more film and/or watch him play in person and at camps. They also get to see how he's progressed over the course of a season, They can better assess potential attitude issues and coachability because they talk to his coaches and interact with him in person.

cmon...magnus is evaluating the player coming in at that moment for the college game. based on limited film..... not on potential. whereas Harbaugh is analyzing for the potential. If magnus thinks Allen is a better college prospect at this point in time so be it.

Damn I haven't heard this guy as a potential commit before. I like this pickup better than Allen. He'll be a beast by his junior year.

That would be like too many Slots for Rich Rod or too many DLs for Hoke.

Where we just see "Tight End", Harbaugh sees many different imperceptible nuances in "Tight End".  Like Eskimos do with snow.

So does this stick?  Does he still take his scheduled UF visit?  Also, still want Asiasi.  Considering the other WR in this class, I think Eubanks can fill a jumbo size WR/TE Fuchess type role.

So Harbaugh's whole "everyone commit silently so we can have a big splashy signing day" plan seems to have gone away.  Not that I'm that bummed, this kid looks like a star to be.

Watching his film felt like watching Devin Funchess. Except Eubanks actually blocked people. Could you imagine... a blocking devin funchess... Also he's two inches taller than Funchess.

- Devin Funchess but taller and he blocks

Excited to have Nick Eubanks join the class.  Highly rated player who was not on our radar until very recently.   Bottom line here is anything is possible with Coach Harbaugh and crootin'.

Looks like he has only played 2 years of football much like some of the defensive pickups in the last week.  So that explains some of the "rawness" in the film but certainly adds to excitment of a potential ceiling down the road in a few years.

Watched his film. Has some speed for a TE and moves really well. Looks like he has nice hands and catches things easily. The size is great and with some added pounds he would be a great TE. I really like the potential with him in the future.
