Hello and happy Bye Week. I hope you've taken this week off to catch up on sleep and watch some good football (not me, though. I watched some bad, bad football).
Each week I've been highlighting football photos but I wanted to take the bye week to highlight some of the other sports that have been covered. Album links are above. We are well into hockey, volleyball, and field hockey seasons and have some photos to share!
Shout out to Bill's photo for being named NCAA Hockey Photo of the week!
While Bryan is our lead local Rutgers coverage correspondent, David has been in the field at Rutgers for several events this year.
MG, known around these parts for his fantastic basketball photography, has started a new chapter working with the University. He was still kind enough to cover a volleyball game!
I uh. I did a hockey game.
Anyways, all of our photographers do wonderful work and you should follow all of them on all of the things!

Next week... a nice safe and relaxing evening under the lights in which we will all be very civil.

Hey, I want an invisible hover chair like Granowicz has!
Duke, 2 min for Giving Him the Business.
Nice timing on the volleyball in the face (ouch!).

hahaha, I came very close to going to that game. I was saved by the fact that Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park was still open (barely -- it closed at 7 PM Saturday night) and I decided -- correctly, I think -- that spending more time in the park was a better use of my time than seeing Hawaii play CSU.
Also, parking prices were outrageous considering the number of people that I expected would show up. $40 for the nearby lots; $30 for lots that were a quarter-mile to a half-mile away. That may sound like a good deal by Michigan Stadium prices, but, again, Hawaii / CSU. I could have gotten a seat on the 50 for $60.

That volleyball serve is a beautiful shot. Nice form, nice timing.

tl;dr - volleyball is cool and you should go watch Michigan volleyball. Tickets are cheap and it's a fun time.
Love the volleyball shots. I have our DVR to record every Michigan match on TV which I watch with my daughter, and we attended Michigan @ NW a few weeks ago.
Love the shots you got of (in order) Jess Robinson getting Air on the spike, May Pertofsky serving (with Jess Robinson and Jenni Liu in the background), Amber Beals celebrating, Jackie Boney and Pertofskey blocking, and Boney blocking (with Kendall Murray, daughter of Vada Murray, in the background).
They lost a tough one to Wisconsin yesterday and will probably drop from the rankings after also being upset by unranked IU earlier in the week, but they'll definitely still make the NCAAs. The question is if they can improve to a seeded position which gives home matches in the first round. The Big Ten is so tough (Nebraska, osu, Purdue, Wisconsin, Minnesota, PSU all ranked). They have 4 games remaining against ranked teams (@osu, @Minnesota, purdue, @purdue) and 6 against unranked teams. If they can hold serve against the runranked and steal one against the ranked teams, they'll be in good shape.
Unfortunately, they've only won 1 match so far against ranked BT opponents (a crazy sweep of PSU on the road) and have only won 3 sets total in the 5 losses to ranked conference opponents.
That said, Nebraska is definitely the class of the Big Ten this year, although osu (sadly) isn't far behind. They look REALLY good, which kinda pisses me off.
This is our most experienced team in a while and hoping for really great things to close the season! Matches are really fun. If you're in the AA area, strongly recommend going. The match yesterday was pretty sparsely attended, so you should be able to get some pretty good seats. Tickets are only $6-8. Great family night out.
