STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Nike, Inc., is giving $400,000 to Penn State's libraries in honor of Hall of Fame coach Joe Paterno's milestone 400th win.
Paterno and his wife, Sue, have been staunch supporters of the libraries, and one of the school's main libraries is named after the family.
Libraries dean Barbara Dewey said Monday the donation will in part help pay for renovations and technological upgrades.
The Paternos have contributed more than $4 million to the school during JoePa's 45-year career, including aid for the libraries.
Win No. 400 for the 84-year-old Paterno came in November when the Nittany Lions rallied from three touchdowns down to beat Northwestern 35-21. Penn State won one more game in 2010 to give Paterno 401 career victories, most among major college coaches.

Can't wait to experience the library's Paterno wing for books on tape.

.....money to the school for the libraries, which Paterno and his wife are big supporters of, instead of the athletic dept. Nike may be on of those "evil" corporate entities in college sports, particularly the amounts of money given to Oregon, but this monetary gift is cool, IMO.

That's like me flipping a nickel made off the backs of children to a homeless man and expecting everyone to make a bronze statue of my balls because I am such a philanthropist.
Just Shove It.

When more details come to light, I'll let everyone know. I am sure it will be so grand that you'll be able to see it from Columbus.

What do you want them to do, make a library for those children? Waste of money. They can't read anyway.

I expect at least a library card for the opportunity to check out books on food. Also insurance on the food books once the pages have been eaten.

You show those lazy bastards a picture of a sandwich and all you'll here the rest of the day is whining about how hungry they are, rather than the sweet hum of those sewing machines bringing in the cash.

True. That might affect the output of my collection of Nike Combat Jerseys.

I just vowed never again to take a drink while reading a jhackney post.
My monitor and keyboard need cleaning now from the mt. dew I just spit out.

Million apologies. I believe if you flip your keyboard over, there will be a number you can call to have the Nike kids make you a new keyboard and shipped from Burma tomorrow. If not, a child will die because of lack of work ethic.

For a guy whose diet consists of BRAINS, JoePa has been quite a philanthropist. His family has endowed at least one chair at PSU that I know of.
January 31st, 2011 at 10:35 PM ^
After JoePa retires to join Bear Bryant, PSU will be rockin' the camou unis with a new lion logo on the metallic blue helmet.
