sooner or later, but it was a bit of a surprise as this point. Though, MSU have been very displeased with the team since the 2008-2009 seasons. They've come to the conclusion that the AD really doesn't care at all, which may still be true, but this could also be completely Comley driven, to save what dignity he has remaining, we'll probably find out when they hire a new coach, depending on who it is.
I don't think they'll get Blasi, he's created a powerhouse and Miami is his alma mater, but that'll be a name bandied around.
Walt Kyle from Northern is a possibility and is pretty well regarded and I think he would go to MSU, but I don't know if State wants another ex-NMU coach, especially one that didn't even have the success Comley had there, albeit in a changing environment.
Seth Appert from Renssalaer (or however you spell it), Nate Leaman from Union and Mark Dennehy from Merrimack are all considered pretty up and coming coaches, any of which would probably leave for State, though I can't say for sure.
Mel and Billy's names always come up during a coaching search and it's possible, but if they still haven't left by now, they're probably staying. Though if one of them did leave obviously that's a huge impact on us as well.
I know next to nothing about State's assistant coaches, but they would both be options.
Or it could be some other assistant somewhere (like Osiecki from Wisco, now at OSU), a junior coach (like Blashill, now at WMU), or, though I think these have pretty much run their course, a returned ultra-successful coach like Jackson or Blais (now at ND and UNO respectively).
While I'll never forgive Comley for the Tropp/Conboy/Kampfer crazy-ness (I still can't believe he tried to sent Tropp to the USHL for the rest of the season, after "kicking him off the team"), he has been pretty kind to Michigan the last couple years.

I expected this. He had one year that he pulled a rabbit out of his hat to win a NC. Other than that, and recently, he has been awful.

Remember when MSU had all americans and were in the top ten and UM-MSU hockey games were always top ten matchups? Yea, those went away when Comley took over. He somehow won a NC which til this day I have NO idea how that happened, but it did,
January 25th, 2011 at 4:14 PM ^
that he announces his retirement right before the UM game?

Maybe the next Tropp and Conboy will actually see some punishment.
