I'm glad DB found a coach open to our offensive system. Oh wait . . .
January 11th, 2011 at 9:23 PM ^
to this hire. This move would not be one.

So far, I've got two - former players should start to help recruiting again and two - at least he will remember what beating MSU and OSU was like - 5-3 vs both as an assistant.

Like I said - I'm trying, Ringo. I'm trying real hard . . .

He was Auburn's OC in 2004 when they went 13-0 and got screwed thr BCS and also in 2006 when they went 11-2
January 11th, 2011 at 9:34 PM ^
Admittedly, I don't know a lot about him outside of that, but wikipedia says he's written some stuff about I formation and the west coast offense. Here's hoping he can adjust to Denard. New biggest fear is that we lose both Tate and Denard. Devin could take over, but he'd be the only schollie QB given our present numbers.
January 11th, 2011 at 9:47 PM ^
This shift might be better long term for denard. Succeeding in 2 styles would show versatility if he's trying to be an NFL qb, a great year in spread and learning the dynamics of a diff offense while switching positions would be a great NFL primer
January 11th, 2011 at 11:24 PM ^
Without getting hurt. Maybe a scheme shift will be better for him anyway.
January 12th, 2011 at 4:05 AM ^
But I figure that it's either Denard or Tate, not both. Some sort of west-coast, semi-pro-style offense would fit Tate well. Small consolation if the worst comes to pass?
January 12th, 2011 at 8:56 AM ^
Someone posted that Tate is not even enrolled this semester. Does anyone know his status?
January 11th, 2011 at 9:32 PM ^
Now I'm down to hope that the coordinator is open to spread concepts. Please assuage my fears during the press conference Coach Hoke.

By a promotion to SDSU?
January 11th, 2011 at 9:33 PM ^
I guess it is good he's bringing continuity with his OC, but I'm not confident that the short term performance if this offense will be a fun experience.
January 11th, 2011 at 9:33 PM ^
Was hoping for loeffler. Don't know anything about this guy. Anyone fill in some more info?
January 11th, 2011 at 9:39 PM ^
Auburn was 41-9 while he was OC there, including their 13-0 season in 2004. He was Gene Chizik's counterpart when Gene was DC there.

Wiku says hes known for developing QBs, including Cade McNown and Jason Campbell

Coached at Indiana so he knows the big ten.

SDSU with Hoke?
January 11th, 2011 at 9:44 PM ^
Is a qb coach
January 11th, 2011 at 11:57 PM ^
My bad. I know loeffler. Was hoping for him as OC. Don't know much about Borges
January 12th, 2011 at 7:19 AM ^
I've seen quite a few people praying for Loeffler at OC. Why? He has no experience at OC. He's been a career QBs coach. Am I unaware of something where he would make a great OC? I'm not trying to come off as a dickbag, here. Honest question.
January 12th, 2011 at 1:02 PM ^
I guess because everyone gets their start somewhere and I've heard that his responsibilities (in practice) went well beyond QB coach in his days at UofM. I also think he'd be great for Denard (and future QBs) to assist their development so that they can, hopefully, have pro careers after they graduate.
January 11th, 2011 at 11:49 PM ^
Recruited or coached, Brady, Henne, Hensen, Mallet, Tebow, and Newton (freshman year at UF) is a proven recruiter and someone who can develop QB talent of multiple skill sets.
January 12th, 2011 at 12:10 AM ^
I believe he was asking about Borges.
January 11th, 2011 at 9:43 PM ^
If we're going to follow through with the return the glory years theme.
So let's go get Chuck Heater and Loeffler, maybe add some Corwin Brown and Ty Wheatley.
What's Gittleson up to?
January 11th, 2011 at 10:54 PM ^
Tuberville won 82% of its games with Borges at OC and 58% without him. I read an article that was more about how Auburn got to Chizik/Malzahn but discussed how Borges offense was pretty conservative when he had little talent but was more exciting with trick plays etc. when he had some talent like Obamanu and other guys hanging around the pros.

I will choose to be an optimist and believe that Borges will be willing to find ways to get Denard in space.
January 11th, 2011 at 11:09 PM ^
Not a big fan of Borges. He had senior QB in Campbell, Cadillac, and Ronnie brown his first year; of course he was gonna put up big numbers. The auburn offense got progressively worse every year until auburn ran him out of town. Auburn's good run was more of a product of Auburn's excellent D under Tuberville than Borges' offense. Expect a more conservative offense that prolly won't showcase all of Drob's skills. If we're becoming Lloyd Carr 2.0, I rather would've had Lefty at OC because of upside and his tutelage of Navarre, Henson, and Henne.

SDSU last year was 16th in total yards and 19th in PPG, averaging about 2 more PPG than us, so not too bad.

I’m excited to see who else UM gets for position coaches. I’m sure Fred Jackson back. If UM is getting the band back together the only two I would NOT like to see back is Andy Moller OL, and Ron English.
Would love to see Loeffler walk back through the door along with a top flight DC maybe from the NFL or Shannon for a couple of years until he take a HC JOB.
January 12th, 2011 at 12:22 PM ^
His Auburn offenses steadily declined until he was finally run out of a town, a year before Tuberville was fired
